ZEBULON, N.C. (WTVD) — Hundreds of people met Wednesday evening to talk passionately about the Second Amendment and their rights to bear arms.

Three local sheriffs, including Wake County’s Donnie Harrison, took part in the minutemen’s discussions in Zebulon. The meeting came just hours after President Obama unveiled his gun control plans.

A boiling point in the meeting came about midway through. When dozens inside and dozens more outside of the Fargo Cattle Company Steakhouse bristled about a possibility that the federal government could violate their Second Amendment rights.

“I don’t think that was answered correctly, or really answered at all,” said Wake County resident Jamie Miller.

“What we didn’t hear is that it doesn’t matter what they say, we’re not going to come and get your guns,” said Wayne County resident Adam Drissel.

What those in attendance heard repeatedly from Sheriffs Jerry Jones, Carey Winders and Donnie Harrison, respectively from Franklin, Wayne and Wake counties, was very similar.

“I’ll quit first, but nobody’s going to take your guns,” said Harrison.

“I don’t see any sheriff going house to house taking weapons,” said Winders. “Folks, there’s more people here than I got deputies. I’m going to tell you that.”

Concern from meeting organizers, the Moccasin Creek Minutemen, and private citizens coincidentally comes the same day as the president’s executive order banning assault weapons and toughening background checks.

“I don’t think it’s going to go as far as people think or thinking it will because let’s face it, you’re not getting mine,” said Wake County resident Adam Page. “I’m not giving them up. I’m 28-years-old. Good luck.”

Each sheriff pledged to uphold the U.S. Constitution, but stopped short of addressing a hypothetical scenario. Instead, they urged the gun advocates to take their passions to lawmakers.

“I think there’s a process that we can do that by uniting and working with the laws and work with people to let them know what our concerns are,” said Jones.

The time for talk has ended.

We know what we must do.

Whatever we require to do, we will be armed if and when necessary. . . . if only to provide food . . . .. for thought.

Texas Official Invites NY Gun Owners to Lone Star State

(Breitbart) – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott is rolling out the welcome mat for New Yorkers who would like to keep their guns—and their money.

Abbott used his campaign money to produce and place ads on media websites in New York City and Albany encouraging residents to move to Texas. Why? To avoid the severe gun restrictions put into place by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, as well as the high income taxes of the Empire State.

FAX BLAST SPECIAL: Don’t Let The Government Take Your Guns! Protect Your Second Amendment Rights!

One ad reads: “WANTED: Law abiding New York gun owners seeking lower taxes and greater opportunities.” If the viewer clicks on the ad, the link goes to a Facebook page extolling the advantages of moving to Texas, such as the lack of an income tax which would enable people to “keep more of what you earn and use that extra money to buy more ammo.”

Abbott minced no words courting New Yorkers, saying:

Texas is better than New York, and New York just gave us another excuse to say that… It is tongue in cheek, but there is a deeper message here. Texas really does stand as the last bastion of ultimate freedom in this country. Over the last decade, more than 4 million people moved to this state, and one reason is freedom and one reason is economic opportunity.

New Yorkers are now limited by Cuomo’s new restrictions, including an expansion of the assault weapon ban already in place and limits on ammunition capacity.

Texas is a different matter; Abbott has committed to sue to block any gun restrictions enacted by Congress.

Chaplain Cole,

Will you be sending an enquiry to NYS sheriffs?

In the meantime, I send the following email to the Exec Dir of NYS Sheriffs Association in Albany. I'll be amazed if I get a cogent, constitution based response. I plan to contact our county sheriff as well.

  • Sheriffs' Position on Gun Controls Enacted by Albany and DC‏

Sir,
Many New Yorkers are appalled by the progressive overreach of this Governor  on the issue of gun rights, gun control and the 2nd Amendment.
I have been monitoring developments around the country with regard to  sheriffs’ pushback against both federal and state authorities who would  knowingly violate our clearly defined 2nd Amendment rights.
Two quick questions: will NYS sheriffs honor and act upon any law or  executive order emanating from either Albany or DC which would in any way  violate our 2nd Amendment rights? Or does your oath of office always take  precedence over political expediency and self-service?
Specifically, what is the official position of the Sheriffs Association of  NYS on the recent gun control measures enacted by our “representatives” in  Albany?
I will share your response with my friends, neighbors and gun club members.
Thank you for your attention and timely reply.
Sincerely,
Jim Delaney
Rochester, NY

The  one part I see as being incorrect coming from the Sheriff, and even the lawyer, and that is the fact that the Sheriff DOES have the availability of overriding any law coming into his jurisdiction that is unconstitutional.  In fact, he has the authority to actually arrest the scoundrel in the WH.  Sheriff Arpaio CAN arrest 0bama because he KNOWS 0bama has committed a felony.  Any policeman or peace officer in the United States, can, with an arrest warrant and the authority vested in him to carry out the law, can arrest 0bama.  Furthermore, nothing was mentioned that I have found yet about 0bama having no rights to override the laws set forth in the Constitution as he is trying to do.  He is the legislative branch of the govt. not the law making branch.  His hot shot executive order is worthless because he has no authority to make such a usurpation of the law already standing on the books.   An executive order telling citizens what they can and cannot do is prima facia null and void.  He does NOT have that authority.  Executive orders were never intended to become laws of the land.  They were intended to be operational direction for the Executive Branch.

HAHAHAHAHA to you 0vomit!  This is the same NC that was supposed to be working hand in glove with the Dept. of Homeland Security, or whomever to do a trial run on gun confiscation in NC.  Personally, 0vomit can take his exec. orders and stick 'em where the sun don't shine! Thanks Merc!

VERY GOOD, WILL FORWARD.  As Chaplain of Pennsylvania Sheriff Brigades, I want to hear from New York Sheriffs!

Comment by Jim Delaney on January 19, 2013 at 1:36pm

This restores my faith in the People--at least those in North Carolina! On the otherhand, I have serious concerns about New Yorkers' faithfulness to and knowledge of their Constitutional rights.

The give and take clearly showed that the people in NC have a firm grasp on what our Constitutional rights are all about and are committed to protecting them.

My only comment is that the Founders would have clarified that "the People, the ultimate sovereigns in these united States, are THE final arbiters of what is and what is not constitutional". Sovereignty is vested in the People and their immediate fiduciary agents, those being their county and State representatives, who are duty-bound to protect the People from all enemies foreign and domestic. Doesn't get clearer than that.

Does this mark the beginning of effective pushback, or are we seeing the germ of revolution taking hold? Whatever works I say.
