I realized as a young man I could never become Hebrew.
I attended a buddies Jewish wedding in my 30s and drank too many glasses of wine.
Every time someone yelled "Mazel tov" I thought they meant "more wine".
Weeks after the wedding people were still reminding me how "special" the wedding must have been for me. When I asked why, they said later that night I was found standing in a corner of the hall breaking glasses and murmuring something that sounded like, "this ones for you Yehudi".
I live in eternal embarrassment and blush often.
