The motorcycle had been formerly owned by Stanford Middleton- the good friend and fellow musician who taught me to ride it. That was Stanford’s birth name, by the way. He used his adopted name in the military. As for the bike itself, I remember it best for its unsecured seat- held to the bike only by the weight of its rider.
Anyway, as I survey the tyranny we face today at the hands of Big Brother, I’m sad to say that we enjoyed much more freedom as young Soldiers in San Francisco- and that maybe those rebellious hippies were onto something.
Those peaceful hippies gathered in Haight-Ashbury like the Taxed-Enough Already now gather in groups on the internet- we being joined together by the magic of instant communication and a noble common cause.
Now when I refer to "peaceful hippies," please don’t confuse that reference with the violent leftists of that era- communist radicals like Bill Ayers with a much different agenda. The real hippies of the sixties only wanted to “do their own thing” and be left alone- a burning desire many of us share yet today.
What would happen if that incomparable technology, a marvelous means of communication unparalleled in human history, were suddenly taken away by our repressive government? Well, the same thing that recently happened in Egypt. We would take to the streets to communicate, just as the hippies did in the sixties- but maybe not so peacefully. Yes, heretofore our demonstrations have been so invariably copacetic that the only evidence of our peaceful and orderly passing was an overflowing trashcan. But what if?
The federal government, in the name of protecting us from terror, already has that terrifying capability in place- and will soon begin testing it. From Infowars on 8 February 2011: “Even the Washington Post describes it like something out of Orwell’s 1984. The FCC has approved a presidential alert system. Obama may soon appear on your television or call your cell phone to warn you about the next specious al-Qaeda underwear bombing event.”
On FNC this week I heard it said that Facebook, Twitter and the bloggers of cyberspace have been “fueling” the revolution in Egypt. Duh! Who can doubt that the present revolution in America is enabled in like manner? Even our historic marches on Washington pale in comparison.
How fast we take our new technologies for granted! How fast we forget that modern man in all his haughtiness is ever but a few steps from returning to the Stone Age! International hackers have breached the cyberwalls of Wall Street, the Pentagon and our energy grids- and apparently can do so at will.
And do we not now live in caves of our own making- futilely seeking refuge from a repressive governmental conglomerate that has taken “taxation without representation” to a whole new level? At least King George only took what was in our pockets. These modern pirates have heavily mortgaged our future and ruthlessly robbed our posterity!
Perhaps I digress a bit, but I’m angry. Moreover, that hostility and fury has come to a rolling boil in response to unbearable taxation, tyranny and treason. We have a federal government that coddles its enemies and crushes its people.
It’s really all about freedom, isn’t it? I mean the long cherished American tradition of peacefully “doing our own thing” without unreasonable government interference, regulation and taxation. It’s also about being able to gather on the net or on the street to express our defiant displeasure toward any and all tyrants who would rule over us. It’s all about making a good living for our families- and enjoying “the good life” empowered by our loving family relationships as well as adequate financial independence.
Americans shall forever despise all tyrants foreign and domestic- especially those who would beat our families low into the dust like heavy-laden beasts of burden. And as the noose of globalist tyranny tightens around America’s neck, who shall stay the flogger’s hand if we lose both our freedom of speech and the current ease with which we now broadcast our common discourse?
