REAL CONSERVATIVES

NEVER TOLERATE TYRANNY!....Conservative voices from the GRASSROOTS.

.

.

.In the spring of 1959, I was a freshman at North Hunterdon Regional High School.
We won a radio contest sponsored by Philadelphia’s WIBG,
and several entertainers put on a show for us.
More than a half century later, I remember only one person.

He was pale and thin- jet-black hair and a rich bass voice.
He wore a plain white shirt and dark pants.
Stepping up to the microphone with his guitar,
he said, “Hello, I’m Johnny Cash.”

His presence filled the entire gymnasium.
He sang “I had a little drink about an hour ago, and it went right to my head,”
which about summed up his life at that time.
I’ll never forget the day Johnny came to town.

While most men in their smallness strain

to fill the space around them,
there are a few without apparent effort

who stand like giants in a valley.
They seem undaunted by sorrow, grief and pain.
Johnny Cash was such a man.

I’ll never forget the day I saw Johnny Cash!
I can close my eyes and see him standing there.
Ain’t much happened back then in Hunterdon County-
The spring of nineteen hundred fifty-nine.
Ain’t much happened back then in Hunterdon County.
He stood there big as life and sang so fine.

All alone at the microphone with his guitar-
Introduced himself and sang a couple songs.
No cowboy hat. No fancy clothes. Just a plain white shirt and dark pants,
He stood there big as life and sang his songs.
Ain’t much happened back then in Hunterdon County.
He stood there big as life and sang his songs.

Fifty years gone by, and it seems like yesterday
I saw a giant of a man fill the void around him.
If I live to be a hundred, my dear Johnny,
I will never ever forget that wondrous day.
If I live to be a hundred, my dear Johnny,
I’ll never ever forget that wondrous day.
