When the New York Times began publishing the Pentagon Papers on 13 June 1971, it heralded the beginning of the end of unwise US military involvement in Vietnam- the sad jungle quagmire also known as Johnson’s War. It was Daniel Ellsberg who supplied those top secret documents to the Times- and for his efforts, he barely escaped going to federal prison. The Pentagon Papers represented the WikiLeaks of that era.
The Nixon administration immediately secured a court injunction to prevent the Times from printing any further installments of that massive pile of top secret documents- but Ellsberg’s explosive revelations soon proved beyond any reasonable doubt that the American people had been repeatedly deceived by their own government about our tragic military mission in Southeast Asia.
When Nixon blocked the Times, one prominent US newspaper after another picked up Ellsberg’s fiery football and carried it a little further down the field. By game’s end, Ellsberg had not only achieved his goal of shutting down the Vietnam War- but also helped topple Nixon in the process. Most Americans link Nixon’s downfall to the Watergate scandal, and I’ve no desire to marginalize the legendary efforts of Bob Woodward. Neither do I wish to deprecate the uncommon valor of our men and women who served in Southeast Asia. Nevertheless, it was Daniel Ellsberg, the New York Times and the Pentagon Papers which commenced the unraveling of Richard Nixon- ultimately forcing him to resign in disgrace.
Yes, we still had responsible journalism then- maybe not perfect, but certainly not the absolute sham and embarrassment of today. I have no doubt whatsoever that Barry Obama won in 2008 primarily because he was the undisputed darling of the liberal mainstream media- and because these prevaricating dogs were merciless in their savage attacks on Sarah Palin.
Neither do I doubt that the Afghan War continues primarily because of lingering media support for a pathetic and failed Presidency. Moreover, our prolonged military involvement in Afghanistan is a hopeless quagmire by any reasonable definition. As General David Petraeus said privately, “I don’t think you win this war. I think you keep fighting… This is the kind of war we’re in for the rest of our lives and probably our kids’ lives.”
Yes, Barry’s never-ending coronation and the related perpetuity of our military involvement in Afghanistan are my prominent peeves with our lackluster mainstream media. However, the culpability of what once was the intrepid voice of the people has much wider and more sinister implications.
For many months now, long before the recent emphasis by Glenn Beck, I have been warning of the evil triumvirate consisting of the international banking cartel, global communism and extreme Islam- and their combined threat to our national security. I have now added the ruthless drug cartels of Mexico, because of their further destabilization of the beleaguered Mexican government and their increasing incursion upon American soil. Needless to say, these four horsemen of the apocalypse, so to speak, now ride atop the corruption within our own government- from the clandestine drug-running operatives of CIA to the morally bankrupt Obama administration. However, our dire dilemma is even much worse than this.
Our once valiant voice of the people has now been reduced to web wonders like YouTube- whatever the faults and unreliability of these internet outlets may be. Lamestream media, even Fox News in my opinion, is in clearly the tank for the global establishment. “FNC,” you ask? Look no further than their condescending disregard for anyone who dares to question the liberal fairytale that Barry Obama was born in Hawaii. That right, Sarah Onyango Obama?
It’s likely a crapshoot whether or not the Taxed-Enough-Already members of Congress will continue to be overwhelmed by liberal Democrats and their rhino affiliates. Impeachment of Obama remains our greatest hope to rid ourselves of Barry’s endless chicanery. By all credible estimates, the President has over a billion bucks in his 2012 war chest. Worse yet, there is presently no credible Republican frontrunner. Moreover, if you believe for a New York minute that cheap frauds like Mike Huckabee or Newt Gingrich can defeat this slick son of Kenya- you are either sadly mistaken or delusional.
Therefore, even though we must prepare for 2012 with all our TEA might, I see impeachment as the only viable solution to our awful predicament. In my opinion, it was threat of impeachment that caused Lyndon Johnson to announce on 31 March 1968 that he would neither seek or accept another Presidential nomination. It was clearly the threat of impeachment that caused Richard Nixon to resign in disgrace on 9 August 1974.
Your particular grounds for Obama’s impeachment? Take your pick from the many crimes, omissions and indiscretions of his administration. Just join the growing chorus- and when the music gets loud enough, even the most recalcitrant lamestream newshounds will no longer resist the scent of blood…
