From Andrew Jackson’s birth in 1767 during the American Colonial Era through David Crockett’s death at the Alamo in 1836 and on to Sam Houston’s passing in Texas in 1863 as the War Between the States raged, these three figures tower above the American historical stage in the dramatic shaping of America. Andrew Jackson, David Crockett, and Sam Houston not only exemplified the Ulster-Scots character, culture, and spirit of their age, but fashioned what America would become in the first Ulster-Scots American century and beyond. The Ulster-Scots epic in America, as witnessed through their lives, would in time become the American epic, not just in their age, but throughout American history down to today. Northern Ireland journalist Billy Kennedy is the author of The Scots-Irish Chronicles – a series of ten books documenting the Scots-Irish/Ulster-Scots influence in America.
