Shortly after 1700 hours on 19 July 2011, our lifeguards left our Ocean City beach at Plymouth Place- their appropriate quitting time for a Tuesday. The beach was pretty much deserted, owing to substantial afternoon rain and severe lightning. Nevertheless, Danny the Lifeguard felt compelled to take one last look at the beach. Like all of our lifeguards, Danny’s sense of duty doesn’t end with his shift. As he turned his head, in that very instant, he saw a horrific sight out on our long stone jetty.
Now the end of that jetty is treacherous in the summer. A moss grows on the outermost rocks that’s slippery as grease when moistened. Yes, I have ventured out there on occasion, but to the unsuspecting tourist, it is the equivalent of a Venus Fly Trap for humans.
Just as Danny turned his head, he saw a young lady slip on the rocks. As usually happens, her feet slipped forward as she fell backwards- her head striking one of the huge rocks. Worse yet, she fell between two rocks, her torso folding into a sharp V-shape with her head now hidden from view- her feet barely visible. Her head was bleeding from the precipitous fall- and so low that she would soon bleed to death or drown in the incoming tide.
Danny sprinted toward the rocks, enlisting the help of my friend Billy, an off-duty Atlantic City fireman. Wish I’d been there to help…
She was a “Russian” girl, as we call all the summer help from the former Soviet Union, but she may have been from any of the countries that once comprised the USSR. With great difficulty in the slippery and treacherous environment, both men were able to extricate her from her precarious predicament and carefully help her to safety. Last I heard, our “Russian” girl was treated at a nearby hospital for her head injury and has successfully survived her life-threatening ordeal- all thanks to a lifeguard whose devotion to duty, honor and country didn’t end at the close of his shift.
Danny is not unique. All our lifeguards are like that. And glory to God, a great number of Americans are like that. Duty, honor and country still mean something to them, even in a country of fading values- an America that is rapidly becoming a spiritual wasteland.
Our military has long been comprised of such noble men and women. And although they have been routinely placed at risk by a self-serving federal government which for many decades has been embroiled in both the building up and tearing down of nations, those Soldiers, Sailors, Marines and Airmen still care about America. They see her slipping on the treacherous rocks. They will not stand by forever to see her drown in a rising tide of crime and treason.
Many American patriots now ask themselves, “Who will save America? Who will save her from this sinister shadow government which is destroying our time-tested rule of law? Who will lift her to safety?”
To me the answer is always the same. Aided by Almighty God, they will be the stalwart members of our military, both past and present. You might ask, “Past members?” Yes. Our sense of duty, honor and country did not end with the passing of our “shift.”
As this sinister shadow government, now most notably characterized by a Kenyan imposter in the White House and a ruthless Federal Reserve owned by private interests, methodically dismembers the American way of life, we are being brought inexorably ever closer to another civil war. Meanwhile, our spineless (treasonous?) Congress and our scandalous (morally-bankrupt?) federal judiciary do nothing. Does your sense of duty end at 1700?
