What a tragedy Patty.

Across the nation in many local elections and state wide elections We the People have no voice of reason.

Florida is a particularly ominous example of citizens HAVING to vote their conscience and hope that enough people follow their conscience too. Third parties candidates DO win sometimes when the stakes are high enough.

What stakes are higher than our kids education and future?

Rick Scott supports Common Core in Florida by being silent and allowing it to continue. He changed the name but it still exists and all the school websites call it Common Core even though his campaign people say it's gone. He stands beside Jeb Bush instead of caring about the kids in Florida who are now flunking because of all the testing and end of course exams and being forced into classes like AP that they are not qualified to take and don't want. Your theory of local control isn't working because the local school boards support Common Core and are allowing kids to be placed in the wrong classes so the stats look better and they can advance their careers on the backs of the kids. Not one school board member in my area was voted out in this cycle of elections probably because of name recognition. The one antiCommon Core school board candidate was also a teacher and lost by 65 votes. In Florida, a kid just starting kindergarten will now take close to 1000 tests before graduating from high school. There are now county benchmark tests each 9 weeks per subject to see if the kids are on track to pass the end of course exams and english tests that replace PARCC. The teachers have to stop teaching each subject to administer these tests and lose a huge number of teaching days.- when are the kids learning subject matter and not testing?

So when Rick Scott loses next Tuesday, it's because he stands for nothing and refuses to get rid of Common Core. The libertarian candidate Wylie is the only one against Common Core. He will split the vote and give Crist a win. If Rick Scott was a real leader he would stand up for something important - our kids who are the future of this country. He stood up and protested a fan before a debate but won't stand up for our kids and realize that our kids are dropping out in droves due to failure in core classes needed to graduate because they were improperly forced into honors and AP classes that are above their ability so the numbers look better on paper.

Scott versus Crist equals the same position on education. Our kids lose with either one of them. My vote goes to Wyllie - he may not win but I can't keep doing the same thing and putting these idiots in office who go against what is best for the kids and their future. Follow the money and it doesn't lead to the kids and their education.

I think on local levels some things have been stopped or changed.  Our schools did not adopt all the curri of cc, our private schools hve. found ways around it even tho they take Title one money.  Our TP group has been fighting cc frm. the start and we are training and going to the school parents all the time, they out the trash and it goes away.  We ae meeting again Sat.  Wish us luck on keeping up the fight.
