@Beverly Hatfield McLamb - you are wrong. There is no issue here - think about it - even if he/they produced something at this stage - why would you believe it? Why would anyone believe it? For him not to be naturally born would have required a conspiracy of immense proportions. Assuming that is true (there is nothing, let me repeat, nothing to evidence that to be the case), that same conspiracy would also act to falsify any record such that you would have no reason to believe any document to be legit. Make sense? It simply doesn't matter. Remember - even if you or Orly Taitz or Lou Dobbs proves he is not legit, you cannot selectively undo things that have occurred under POTUS - you would have to undo everything. Where would that leave us? Anyone that nails down a plank tied to birther will be immediately painted as fringe, as a lunatic, as out of touch. There are plenty of other issues to concern with. Personally - I think he has the legal quals down. They could have diffused it - BUT - by letting it fester - they allowed a "fringe" to be painted into a corner that could distract more focused criticism. It is merely a trap you fell into.

Christopher, your Dad and mine were not totally unlike in principle... My Dad used to call DC "Sodom on the Potomac".
Dr. George Watson describes "Potomac Fever" as a swelling of the head in DC resulting in a shrinking of taxpayers' wallets. I attribute it to DC's sodomozing taxpayers every time they vote.

A constitutional eligability to be president is not a fringe issues. When we finally are able to prove to the rest of America that Obama is not legally president all that he has done will become null and void. How can we clean up the unconstituional actions of congress to pass bills illegally and leave obama's birth alone?? It is a hand in hand issue. Go Sarah!!

@CES - I don't disagree Chris - way early in their campaign they could have diffused this by at least recognizing there would be natural curiosity over his heritage and legitimacy for the office. Rather than get in front of it they only wanted to use it and leverage it to gain more votes in the diversity space - smart politics but dumb in ignoring the fact that people want to ensure that this guy who is 'different' has the right things in place to take this office.

I agree ray,but it is nice to dream Obama having to give it up,,it would most likely cause a riot in Detroit ,I do not want to go to the rooftop of my Plant and shoot people who might threaten my equipment or stock,,, like I think my dad had to do, in the late 1960's,he would never talk about it much except he was glad to see the Michigan national guard march into town and stop the nightmare,and I am totally on it with your major concerns , I am an e-mail and calling terror to the state-ist in Disneyland on the Potomac................ stay cool CES

Focusing on fringe issues like this (the birther issues) detracts from core issues that affect and impact most Americans - the economy, the wars, influence of government, etc.
