I agree with you, Elizabeth, about President Bush! Cotton, I think that Justice Thomas was referring to his treatment from Kennedy and Biden and not to Anita Hill.

Dan Quayle was treated very unfairly. Look at all of the dumb things that V.P. Biden says and the media tends to just smile like, well that is just Joe.

The hearings for The Honorable Clarence Thomas were certainly disgraceful. The QUALIFICATIONS of the candidate for the Supreme Court were not the deciding point, but, rather, his IDEOLOGY. The incivility was rampant and disgusting as they dragged Anita Hill out of obscurity to try to defeat his nomination. Thomas raised the cry of racism, and perhaps inappropriately, but when you look at the hearings from his perspective you might well have felt that way. After all, the Democratic party was the party of slavery and the Democrats were going to do their damndest to get his nomination defeated.

Justice Robert Bork went through the same kind of incivility as he was attacked from all sides by the Democrats. This fine justice went through hell due to his nomination.

We can also remember Dan Quayle and his unfortunate spelling of "potato" which sunk him like a stone, even though he is a very, very bright man with terrific credentials. The power of the press swatted at him and destroyed him the way "The One" killed the fly he nuked on national television. (By the by, has anyone else been able to do that? You betcha! I did it myself with great patience and stealth. But to the press this was a miraculous occurrence when "The One" managed to get the pesky fly!)

Clinton had his problems, of course, and civility was was not to be found much in the country. We might remember that some of the incivility was perpetrated by the Clintons themselves...and the lies in the Oval Office were front and center.

When we get to my hero, George W. Bush (and yes, I know there were some eggregious mistakes and some stupid things...but overall, he was a man who tried his best to govern this country through some very, very difficult times...and he did it in the face of such scathing criticism that I cringe to remember it all!). During President Bush's second term, he was under attack at almost every turn, and so much of it was downright disgusting.

And now we get to "The One" and his plans for this country. He used ACORN until they had no further use to him as their gaming of the system came to the fore of the American public's attention. Bertha Lewis was on FOX yesterday. "Oh, yes, we must look into what has been going on within our ranks. I will be announcing who will be conducting the accounting investigation on Monday..." Will it be one of the large accounting firms? LOL Perhaps not, but we'll see. It will likely take two years, due to the structure of ACORN, to find out what happened to all the funds they have been receiving.

Did she look at Congressman Darrell Issa as he was addressing her? The body language indicates that she did not from what I saw of the interview. Her body was turned towards Chris Wallace so that, had she wanted to look at Congressman Issa, she would have had to crane her neck, or physically turn her body on the chair! Somehow I found it amusing that she could not face her accuser.... I suppose that in the end this will also be termed as racist...that the public has risen up against ACORN because most of the "members" or "volunteers" or the folks who run this organization are black. This is the same old deflection used by those in power as it brings up a nasty part of our history. But when do we FORGET what happened a century ago? When do we FORGIVE those who were proponents of slavery? Forgiveness may not be in the lexicon, but the "crutch" of slavery should by now have gone by the wayside. If all this keeps up, we may very well enter a new era of racism as folks just say ENOUGH to this excuse for the investigation of bad behavior.

And now we finally get to the levels of racism by those who feel that "the folks" are racist in that they do not support this president we currently have occupying the White House. The approval rating of "The One" is sinking like a stone...does that mean that 60%+ of the American public is racist? What happens when his approval rating gets to 30%, or
