It has begun. We first learned of the assault on corporate pay when the banks taking TARP would have their pay packages looked at rigorously and "approved" by the Pay Czar or perhaps by "The One" himself. That assault has been broadened to include ALL banks recently.
And now we learn on Fox News that there are some CORPORATIONS which have "voluntarily" said they would take a look at the issue of pay and make some changes. These corporations want to "get ahead" of the curve on the issue so they will not be bullied and harrassed...
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?
Are we a free market system, or has that gone under the Obama bus? This is an OUTRAGE and should be so to each and every one of us, whether youngsters starting out in their corporate life, or people in our sunset years such as I am who worked and scratched like hell to get somewhere in this country and garnered some success. You can bet that the Pay Czar might well have said to me, "Oh, you make north of $90,000 as an Administrative Assistant? And you don't have a college education? That's WAY too much...you should be paid $45,000!" This despite the pressure, despite the very, very long hours (not covered under overtime which in so many companies is a thing of the past), and despite the sacrifices made by so many like me, some to the detriment of our families as we were not always available to our children and/or our husband or significant other.
Where does this stop? Do we say to the local delivery man, "Oh, you make only minimum wage? You should be making $20 per hour!"
Do we say to the doctors (specialists as well as general practitioners), "Oh, you make too much at $1.0 million a year. We must lower your salary to $400,000 per year" (and this DESPITE paying up to $200,000 per YEAR for malpractice insurance, hefty office expenses, etc.). If we say this to doctors, we'll HAVE NO DOCTORS.
This is the BEGINNING OF THE REDISTRIBUTION OF WEALTH which Joe the Plumber was apprised of by "The One" himself while on the campaign trail.
And on and on it goes...
