Many listeners won’t understand this song. Maybe most of you…
It was written for those members of our military during the Vietnam War
torn between inner feelings of heart and their devotion to duty, honor and country.
Those feelings often included a longing for love and inner peace.
Many thousands of these men and women still struggle with thoughts of suicide,
post-traumatic stress and other serious medical issues associated with the horror of war.
May Almighty God heal our troubled Veterans of all wars past and present.

YOU OLD HIPPIE, YOU OLD SOLDIER:

You old hippie, you old Soldier, where have the flowers gone-
all your San Francisco memories long ago?
Life went by on wings of lightning without asking your permission,
leaving you an old Soldier soon to die.

But something deep inside you is screamin’, “Hold the line!”

ME, MY GUITARS AND THEE

Me and my guitars-
what seems a hundred years-
have wandered down a rocky road of happiness and tears.
Through love and war and quiet times,
there’s been so much to see-
with old Mr. Martin-
young Gibson-
and Thee.

Dear Lord, You’ve been my Friend-
always being kind-
forgiving of all my foolishness and giving peace of mind.
If my only mistakes were just the sour notes I sing,
what happiness to others I would bring!
I want to be like Martin-
with his voice so pure and clear!
Please help me get closer this year.

I don’t know why I stumble when the path is marked so well-
it seems my human nature makes life a living hell.
Time and time again You pull me from the mire-
wash my body clean and warm me by the fire.
I want to be like Gibson-
with his intonation true-
I want to be loving-
like You.

Me and my guitars-
