COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.— Hunters across the country are boycotting Colorado because of recent legislation meant to curtail gun violence.
Michael Bane, a producer for The Outdoor Channel, announced he will no longer film his four shows in Colorado, and hunters are joining the protests.
Hunting outfitters say people began cancelling trips after the legislation passed, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported ( ). The numbers are few, but growing.
Colorado’s governor signed bills this month that ban ammunition magazines that hold more than 15 rounds, and require background checks for private and online gun sales.
Those new gun laws and others were drawn up in response to mass killings at a suburban Denver movie theater and a Connecticut elementary school.

The mother of a 13-month-old boy shot dead in his stroller said she thought the gun being pointed at her was fake.
Sherry West of Brunswick, Ga. recounted the horrifying chain of events that took place Thursday morning when she was pushing Antonio Santiago in his stroller after running an errand. That’s when she said a teenager and a younger boy approached her and demanded money.
“I thought the gun was fake. I didn’t think the gun was real,” West told CNN in an interview punctuated by sobs. “A boy approached me and told me he wanted my money and I told him I didn’t have any money and he said ‘give me your money or I’m gonna kill you and I’m going to shoot your baby.’”
West was shot in the ear, the bullet just grazing her skin, and in the leg above her knee.
“I thought it was a BB gun. It was a small gun, and then all of a sudden he walked over and he shot my baby right in the face,” West said. “He must have died instantly because I screamed for help and a neighbor to call the police, and he ran off — he got scared that I screamed.”

West said she quickly wheeled the stroller away and took the baby out of his harness.
“I tried to perform CPR, I saw his lungs inflating but he was not breathing and there was no pulse,” she said. “By the time the EMTs got there the police, they tried to do CPR also, and we — we lost him.”
De’Marquise Elkins, 17, was arrested and charged as an adult with first-degree murder. Police also arrested a 14-year-old, who has not been identified because he is a minor.
Elkins’ older sister said her brother was not in the area on Thursday and could not have been involved in the shooting.
“My brother wasn’t anywhere near that area as far as we know – not the scene or the shooting,” she told the Associated Press Saturday.
“He couldn’t have done that to a little baby,” she added. “My brother has a good heart.”
West was shown Elkins’ jail mug shot and said she’s sure he’s the one who pulled the trigger.
“That’s definitely him,” she said. “He killed my baby, and he shot me, too.”

Psychiatrists, county officials and law enforcement are questioning a portion of New York’s new gun-control law that requires them to take steps that could lead to guns being seized from potentially dangerous people.
Since mid-March, New York’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act has required mental health professionals to report when a patient is a potential danger to himself or others. A county receives the information, decides whether to approve it, and if so sends it to the state for entry into a database. Local law enforcement officials then must suspend or revoke any gun licenses and remove a gun owner’s firearms.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo has touted the reporting requirements outlined in the law, saying they will keep guns out of the hands of the dangerously mentally ill and prevent mass shootings that have claimed more than 900 victims in the past seven years.
But parties who must participate in the process said the new law was hastily designed and broadly written.
“When someone drops a whole new set of rules out of the sky, … you trip up on a lot of stuff,” said Eric Caine, psychiatry department chairman at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

The commercial is an unambiguous appeal to gun owners: a middle-aged hunter, rifle in hand, vows that he will fight to protect the Second Amendment. But in a sensible, father-of-the-house tone, he also urges voters to support comprehensive background checks, “so criminals and the dangerously mentally ill can’t buy guns.”
The man behind the advertisement is not known for his kinship with the gun crowd: Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg, the nation’s fiercest advocate of restrictions on firearms since the December rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
Determined to persuade Congress to act in response to that shooting, Mr. Bloomberg on Monday will begin bankrolling a $12 million national advertising campaign that focuses on senators who he believes might be persuaded to support a pending package of federal regulations to curb gun violence. The ads, in 13 states, will blanket those senators’ districts during an Easter Congressional recess that is to be followed by debate over the legislation.
In a telling sign of how much the white-hot demands for gun control have been tempered by political reality, Mr. Bloomberg’s commercials make no mention of an assault weapons ban once sought by the White House and its allies, instead focusing on the more achievable goal of universal background checks.
“You don’t want to lose everything in the interest of getting the perfect,” Mr. Bloomberg said in an interview, acknowledging his disappointment over the apparent unlikelihood of an assault weapons ban, but insisting he is resolved to push the legislation through at a time when its prospects are uncertain.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that Alaska’s senior senator has backed a leftist judge. Last February, Murkowski joined with other RINO’s and Begich to confirm Jesse Furman to the Federal Court of Appeals. Furman infamously blamed America’s violence on its “fascination with guns.”
The first test of how Alaskans will embrace the anti-gun votes of their elected federal officials will come in 2014 with Mark Begich’s reelection efforts. But Murkowski will face the same test just two years later. Both should be sent packing.
While President Obama lost a round this week on his gun-control agenda in Congress, he’s making up for lost ground by pursuing a broader gun grab at the United Nations.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said there was not enough support to give Sen. Dianne Feinstein the stand-alone vote she demands on the “assault weapon” ban, but the upper chamber may soon be the deciding factor in whether the United States ratifies an international treaty that could strip Americans of their Second Amendment rights.
On Monday, the United States joined in the nine day conference in New York to finalize negotiations of the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). The treaty is intended to regulate the global trade of conventional weapons, but depending how the final document is worded, it could put at risk Americans’ right to keep and bear arms.
The countries were negotiating the draft last July, but stopped when the U.S. asked for a delay. Many believe Mr. Obama pushed the issue past Election Day in order not to further alienate gun owners. Now that he has more “flexibility” in his second term, the U.S. is back at the table.
Secretary of State John Kerry has encouraged reaching consensus by March 28. “The United States is steadfast in its commitment to achieve a strong and effective Arms Trade Treaty that helps address the adverse effects of the international arms trade on global peace and stability,” he wrote in a statement Friday.

The days of the term “gun community” only bringing to mind the image of older white men are ending, as young pro-gun voices begin speaking up and making their marks. Groups like the National Rifle Association have begun giving voice to an array of young women and men, both white and black, who shatter the misconceptions about who and what makes up the pro-gun community.
One such voice is Natalie Foster, the young and beautiful gun advocate who founded and runs GirlsGuideToGuns.com.
In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Foster explains that her site is neither Left or Right, neither liberal or conservative. She feels that firearms and self-protection are for all Americans regardless of political affiliation. Foster says: "The Second Amendment applies to all Americans, to the Republicans, Democrats, and all other political groups.
"Guns are American, they are part of our nation’s rich cultural heritage, and this heritage belongs to us all."
Foster’s interest in firearms began as an effort to be closer to her father. “Guns have always been about relationships to me, especially with my dad,” she says. As Foster began seeking knowledge about firearms, she began to realize a lack of information existed online for women interested in guns. She decided to remedy the issue by creating her own website.
“I wanted to chronicle my own journey. A lot of women want to take responsibility to protect themselves and learn to appreciate the outdoors I decided to build a place for women in the gun community. There wasn’t a lot of content for women out there at the time. I wanted to provide fashion, current events, and guns,” says Foster.
Foster is not the only young woman speaking up. Regis Giles, a 21-year-old blogger from Florida, started her own pro-gun website for girls called GirlsJustWannaHaveGuns.com.
Giles was very concerned with some women turning away from the idea of being responsible for their own safety.
"My main goal is to attract women who never thought about owning a firearm or taking responsibility for their own safety. I wanted to help introduce them to the gun community," says Giles.
Both Foster and Giles said they were encouraged by seeing so much diversity in the gun community.
“I am impressed to see women and others standing up for themselves and their role in the gun community, and not allowing opponents of self-protection to falsely portray the gun community as 'just older white men' any longer,” says Foster.

If you were to visit The Huffington Post right now, then you would see at the top of its home page an alleged statistic about gun-related deaths in the USA since the Newtown shooting.
There is one little problem with the statistic. By itself, it is meaningless.
The statistic doesn’t separate accidental deaths from intentional killings.
It doesn’t separate acts of self defense or acts in the line of duty from criminal acts.
It doesn’t separate deaths involving pistols from deaths involving rifles.
It say nothing about the amount of ammunition involved in the gun-related deaths.
It says nothing about the existing gun laws in the areas where…
WASHINGTON— The White House is still pushing for an assault weapons ban, Vice President Joe Biden said Wednesday, even though Senate Democrats all but sealed its fate by dropping it from the gun-control package they plan to consider next month.
Although the ban’s sponsor still plans to offer it as an amendment, it is almost certain to fall victim to opposition from Republicans and likely some Democrats, too. In jettisoning the ban Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said it fell far short of the amount of support it would need to survive a vote and said including the assault weapons ban could sink the whole bill.
“Attitudes are changing,” Biden said in an interview with NPR News. “The president and I are going to continue to push, and we haven’t given up on it.”
Biden and President Barack Obama have walked a fine line on the assault weapons ban, widely considered the most politically challenging element of the gun-control proposals the administration is pushing. While fully embracing the ban as a matter of policy, the administration has avoided describing it as a must-have, wary of letting the perfect be the enemy of the good. Instead, they’ve argued that at the very least the ban deserves a vote, even if political considerations ultimately place its passage out of reach.
