Senate Republicans Defeat Anti-gun Obama Court Nominee Senator Cornyn leads battle against Veterans Gun Ban   There’s been a lot of gun news this week.  Votes in the full Senate.  Votes in the Senate Judiciary Committee.  The gun battle has finally begun.   But first, we start with an incredible victory.   Halligan goes down to defeat   On Wednesday, Senate Republicans successfully filibustered the nomination of Caitlin Halligan for a seat on the DC Court of Appeals.  By a vote of 51-41, all of the Republicans hung tight — except for Senator Lisa Murkowski who voted for the anti-gun, liberal Halligan.  (Alaska, she needs to hear from you!)   There was a barrage of grassroots’ opposition against Halligan, and people in the media took notice of your action following the vote on Wednesday:   * Watchdog.org reported that, "Gun Owners of America led the attack" against Halligan.   * Politico said that “Gun Owners of America [called] Halligan ‘one of the most anti-gun judicial nominees in recent memory.’”   * And Roll Call reported that, “Senate GOP leaders circulated an email highlighting the view of the GOA and other critics.”   So thank you all for generous support which helps GOA to keep fighting the fight!   And thank you for your hard work and exercising your citizenship duties by communicating with your Senators.  It has paid off once again.  Well done!   Defeat of Veterans Gun Ban now within reach   The Senate Judiciary Committee took up the subject of gun control on Thursday and passed S. 54, the Veterans Gun Ban, a bill which now moves to the Senate floor.   Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) spoke for all gun owners when he vigorously opposed the bill in committee, explaining that:   This bill would make it a serious felony [up to 15 years in prison] for an American Legion employee to negligently transfer a raffled firearm to a veteran who unknown to the transferor suffers from PTSD. — Senator John Cornyn (R-TX)   The committee adjourned without finishing its business, and it will reconvene later to take up several more gun bills.  But the good news in all of this is that the Republican opposition was virtually united, thus making a filibuster on the Senate floor very achievable.   Although this legislative pile of bunk is wrapped up in a pretty package labeled “gun trafficking” (which is already illegal), the bill would (at its core) send you to prison for 15 years if you:        - Negligently sold two or more guns;      - Negligently gave a gun as a gift;      - Negligently raffled a gun.   What do we mean by “negligence”?  Well, 150,000 law-abiding veterans are currently barred from owning firearms, without any due process of law.  And any person who smokes marijuana — including medical marijuana — is prohibited from owning a firearm under 18 U.S.C. 922(g)(3).   So, if you sell a gun to any of these people, without realizing that they are subject to a gun ban, you can go to prison for 15 years.    Anti-gun Chairman Patrick Leahy did everything he could to cut off debate on S. 54 — showing clear irritation at any senator who dared to raise questions with respect to its provisions.     That said, seven of the eight Republicans on the committee voted against S. 54, the Veterans Gun Ban — Senators Jeff Sessions (AL), Jeff Flake (AZ), Lindsey Graham (SC), John Cornyn (TX), Ted Cruz (TX), Orrin Hatch (UT) and Mike Lee (UT).  They all deserve your support and thanks.   And the eighth, Ranking Republican Chuck Grassley, left open the possibility that he would vote against it on the floor unless it was amended. _______________________________________________ "Apathy: The Death of Liberty" By Tim Schmidt USCCA Founder I once heard a man say, "Apathy is always at the door. He's waiting for you to let him in." Apathy is like a thief who is waiting for you to slip up and give him access to your home. Once Apathy gets in, he steals your livelihood and takes away everything that is valuable to you. While this metaphorical image seems obscure, it's a perfect picture of what can happen to our rights if we are not vigilant. Sure, it's easy to speak up for your rights, beliefs, and convictions in the heat of an election or public debate, but what happens six months after the debate dies down? What happens a year after? Most people let Apathy in the door and they let him rob them of their values and convictions. Becoming apathetic about the natural born rights we have to defend ourselves and our loved ones is not something that anyone can afford. The moment you become apathetic about your beliefs, you risk the chance of losing them forever. What am I getting at? You've probably noticed by now that I, along with many of our writers, have been saying the same things about our rights over, and over again lately. Do you know why? Because we are unwilling to let Apathy in our front door to rob us of our liberty. Our rights are worth causing a stir over, and you will not see any of us sitting down to see how this plays out. Waiting for things to pan out will only lead to defeat. I want to encourage you to stave off apathy during a time of political and corrupt scheming. Lend your voice to the cause of freedom, and contribute to preserving the rights that were afforded us by the blood of countless patriots. Call and email your state and federal representatives. Sign petitions. Support organizations and businesses that are fighting for freedom. Your action can preserve the freedom that our children deserve. DOJ Memo: Outlaw And Confiscate All Guns

  You have GOT to check out this memo from Obama's Department of Justice. Anyone who thinks that these people will stop at merely banning some firearms has got much to learn. Why would this government be so intent on trying to not only limit American's freedoms but apparently attempt to start a Civil War in America as well with the obvious repeal of the 2nd Amendment? My feelings are that they know quite well that once the 2nd Amendment is gone, the 1st Amendment will soon follow. Bad decision DOJ; have you folks gone completely insane? Let's all hope for the best here and hope that cooler heads will prevail soon. Obviously to me, there are no 'cool heads' in the Obama Administration or the DOJ. Hasn't this government already inflicted enough carnage around the entire world with drones strikes and endless wars?   DOJ memo states: “Buybacks are ineffective unless massive and coupled with a ban.”

  The National Rifle Association has obtained a Department of Justice memo calling for national gun registration and confiscation. The nine page “cursory summary” on current gun control initiatives was not officially released by the Obama administration.

  The DOJ memo (downloadable here as a PDF) states the administration “believes that a gun ban will not work without mandatory gun confiscation,” according to the NRA, and thinks universal background checks “won’t work without requiring national gun registration.” Obama has yet to publicly support national registration or firearms confiscation, although the memo reveals his administration is moving in that direction.

  The memo stands in stark contrast to the administration’s public stance on so-called gun control. White House spokesman Jay Carney said last month that laws proposed by Obama would not “take away a gun from a single law-abiding American.”

Frederick Douglass Society President: ‘Direct Correlation Between G...

(CNSNews.com) – Gun control dates back to laws before and after the Civil War that prohibited or restricted African Americans from owning firearms, a group of black leaders said Friday at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

“History is rife with examples. There’s a direct correlation between gun control and black people control,” Stacy Swimp, president and CFO of the Frederick Douglass Society, said at the event.

Swimp compared the call for universal background checks for gun purchase to the time when blacks were required to register with the government.

“The first gun laws were put into place to register black folks, to make sure that they would know who we were – that we could not defend ourselves,” Swimp said.

“I think if you look right after the Emancipation Proclamation – what was going on down in the southern states, it’s very clear that the Dixiecrats wanted to disarm black people to keep us from defending ourselves against the Klansman, who were murdering white and black Republicans to control the ballot box,” Swimp said. “So I think history is [rife] with examples. There’s a direct correlation between gun control and black people control.”
