My father served in WWII. I was fortunate that he came back alive. My four children have been sent to combat in Iraq and Afghanistan a total of eight times. There is gratitude in my heart to Almighty God every minute of every day that they are still among the living. As for myself, I was never a hero- a trumpet player and a cook for the most part, but I did serve my twenty years in the military.
