A few odds and ends to round out the week…
Rest in peace, dear Geraldine. You were the tough First Lady of American Politics for many years. Thanks for paving the way for countless women…
Next, Ocean City Police came to my home early this morning, as has happened several times, after a concerned citizen placed a 911 call upon hearing my mother’s usual demented opening rant. I explained to the three officers that everything was fine- and held the door open so they could hear that my mother had calmed down. However, the police insisted that they enter my home and look around. When I asked them if they had a warrant, they replied that one wasn’t needed. Fearing a physical confrontation, I compromised after a few minutes- and only the highest ranking officer came upstairs to witness Mom calmly eating her blueberry muffin. I guess all it takes for police to enter your New Jersey home these days is to have someone dial 911. Although police do have a responsibility to answer all 911 calls, I thought this was a bit excessive- even an unwarranted and unconstitutional intrusion.
Then there’s ninety-five-year-old veteran Leeland Davidson, who recently discovered that he’s not considered a US citizen, despite living nearly a century in America and serving in the US Navy during WWII. “Davidson, from Centralia, Washington, told KOMO News that he discovered he wasn’t a US citizen when he was turned down for an enhanced driver’s license… ‘We always figured because he was born to US parents he’s automatically a US citizen,’ said Davidson’s daughter, Rose Schoolcraft. Davidson was born in British Columbia in 1916, but his parents didn’t register the birth with the US government… ‘I want it squared away before I pass away,’ he says.” Wow. Does the government really care if Barry Obama is a US citizen?
On a positive note, Major Shoshannah Jenni is in White Sands, New Mexico to run the 22nd Annual Bataan Memorial. Yesterday on the plane she read the lyrics of my Bataan song to Ben- a survivor of the Death March. “Ice cold beer on summer nights- sweet perfume in the air. Steak and spuds and apple pie- the hills of home so fair. Memories, sweet memories, dance within my brain- they dance to silent music there- dance to ease my pain. No Mama and no Poppa, not even Uncle Sam. I guess they’ve all forgotten the bastards of Bataan…” The old veteran responded by reciting a poem about a legendary perfumed handkerchief that circulated in the prison camp. Priceless…
And a banking update. 25 US banks have failed so far in 2011- compared to a total of 25 for the entire year of 2008 and only 3 in 2007. In 2009, 140 of our banks failed- and in 2010 there were 157. The total FDIC obligation to cover those bank failures was an astounding $76,416,700,000. Of course, the big banks that comprise the Federal Reserve System don’t have to worry- and as they buy up the smaller banks, the private interests which own the Fed simply tighten their stranglehold on the American people. And how does the Fed primarily protect itself? It simply creates more Federal Reserve Notes via the US Treasury- or much more conveniently, by conjuring up a massive electronic deposit, literally creating money out of thin air. Yes, they’ve taken Monopoly money to a whole new level. Truth be told, no bigwig banker has ever explained such electronic hanky-panky to me, but you can bet that’s exactly how it’s done. That’s one reason the Fed has never been audited.
Now some final thoughts on Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya.
Afghanistan is indeed a quagmire. Its rugged terrain and primitive tribal people were clearly instrumental in bringing down the former Soviet Union- and have also heavily contributed to our own problems, specifically our burgeoning national debt and overburdened military. General David Petraeus said privately, “I don’t think you win this war. I think you keep fighting… This is the kind of war we’re in for the rest of our lives and probably our kids’ lives.”
In regard to continuing US occupation of Iraq, when we invade and conquer a sovereign country, our occupation does not effectively terminate until we LEAVE- despite all the rhetoric and written agreements to the contrary.
And finally in regard to the escalating civil war in Libya, President Obama is banking on Gaddafi’s removal from power to justify attacking that country without the approval of Congress. Sorry, Barry, but I don’t think Gaddafi will fall that quickly. Neither do I believe it’s wise to create a power vacuum when you have no idea who’s gonna fill it. Moreover, I fail to see how the Constitutionally illegal and unauthorized killing of Libyan soldiers, coupled with the unavoidable collateral civilian deaths germane to war, is any less reprehensible than the crimes of Gaddafi himself. And to place US troops under foreign command? Sorry again, Barry, but I’m not a big fan of the UN.
Where’s the genuine Congressional outrage? Where are the leftist loonies who screamed foul when we invaded Iraq? And Billy O’Reilly, I know your in the tank for Barry, but have you lost your ever-lovin’ mind? When will the American people say, “Enough?" The Brits are sure going at it today…
