Tuesday night was an historic night for the Republican Party in a lot of ways. Mia Love became the first black Republican woman elected to Congress. Joni Ernst became the first woman elected to represent Iowa in U.S. Senate history. Elise Stefanik, at the age of 30, is the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, representing New York’s 21st congressional district. It appears that Carl DeMaio, who ran for Congress in California, will be the first openly gay Republican ever elected to Congress. And, Tim Scott became the first black Senator elected in the South since Reconstruction. But, there was another huge first for Republicans and history that few in the media are talking about.
Will Hurd won his race to represent the 23rd congressional district in Texas. In doing so, he becomes the first Republican of African-American descent to represent Texas in the House of Representatives since Reconstruction.
Hurd, who is biracial, has a mom who is white and a dad who is black. He is a 2000 graduate of Texas A&M University and grew up in the district which spans nearly all or a part of 29 counties, covers 48,000 square miles between San Antonio and El Paso, and includes most of the Mexican border. While at Texas A&M, he was student body president and led the university through the trying time in its history when the iconic Aggie Bonfire fell in 1999.
After college, Hurd went on to work at the CIA for nearly ten years dealing with major national security issues and leading operations dealing with counterterrorism, cyber security, and other major threats. According to Texas GOP Chairman Steve Munisteri, Hurd’s win ties the number for most Republicans in Congress from the Lone Star State.
Prior to the election results being determined, Hurd said, “I sleep like a baby every night knowing I did absolutely everything I could to win this race. We always knew it was going to come down to the very end.”
His hard work paid off. Hurd defeated his Democrat opponent Pete Gallego 49.8% to 47.7%

Someone, most likely a conservative somewhere, is definitely having a positive affect on young people today. It shows in the Mid-Term tsunami election results. Republicans have changed the political landscape. We have a new generation of politicians on the way.
If Boehner and McConnell thought they had a hard time with the TEA PARTY, get ready for more . . . . there is new blood entering the system!
