Agreed this may be oversimplifying the prospect of shutting down the federal government, but consider these examples. If an electrical circuit in my house demands too much juice, a circuit breaker immediately shuts it down. If a water pipe bursts, I shut off the water immediately to minimize damage and waste. If there’s a problem with my water heater or heating system, the natural gas is shut off automatically to prevent an explosion. 

We have a federal government that is demanding way too much “juice.” It has broken pipes all over the place that waste our tax money and natural resources. The entire bloated system seems in danger of exploding- or perhaps imploding. Why not shut it down?

Moreover, the federal government that was originally designed and enabled by the founding fathers to protect our way of life now threatens to totally destroy it- and all the civil liberties attached thereto. Why not shut it down?

Do we not expect Congressman Boehner and his newly empowered GOP House majority to stop all this madness? I personally hope they reach for the federal government’s kill switch. And recalling an old movie starring Hanoi Jane, “They shoot horses, don’t they?”

Don’t you wish you could slap some duct tape over the mouths of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi? Chuck Schumer? Even King Teleprompter himself? Well how about this! We shut down and shut up the whole shebang! Is there any other way to stop these bureaucratic liberal lunatics from taxing, borrowing and spending our civilization into the dust? Don’t think so!

And is there anything the government does right? Does it issue our own currency? No! Shut down the Fed? No! Spend our tax money wisely? No! Seal the southern border? No! Use our military primarily to protect us- instead of involving us in useless foreign wars? No! Ever tell us the truth? No! Seek to end our dependence on foreign oil? No! Kick the usurper out of the White House? No! Stop trying to fix what ain’t broke? No! The complete list would make the obese script of ObamaCare look like a skinny comic book!

So why not shut the whole federal thing down for a few weeks? Will the Chinese invade? No. They are well aware we still have too many guns in our homes, no thanks to Hillary- and we owe China too much money. And speaking of money, if we keep the government shut down long enough, the private sector might actually recover from this federally induced recession. Yes, I refer to Fanny and Freddie- not to mention the out-of-control taxation and regulation that still stifles economic growth.

And I don’t think I’m alone. I’m willing to bet there are millions of angry Americans, especially of the Taxed-Enough-Already variety, who secretly hope the federal spigot will indeed be shut off for a while- cutting off funding for foreign aid, Planned Parenthood, the federal lawsuit against Arizona- and a zillion other useless things we would happily live without.

Here’s the clincher. From the very birth of the Republic, it has been the grand design of those greedy international bankers, whether it be by fomenting wars or fostering entitlements, to spend America into hopeless servitude. And looking at our staggering national debt, I’d say they’ve nearly succeeded.

Shut it down! What’s the worst that can happen? People stop lending the government money? Congress stops spending money? A few less bridges to nowhere? The American people have a little more money in their pockets? The federal bureaucrats are out of control. Time to put a lock on the icebox! Cut off their allowances! Yank their cell phone privileges! Take back the car keys! Send them to their rooms! Yes, shut them down!

Seriously, maybe the only way to stop the federal government from meddling in our affairs is to just shut it down altogether. Let state governments fill the void- the way it was supposed to be in the first place. Let Texas and Arizona defend themselves. Let Alaska drill in ANWR. Let California turn the water back on for their farmers. Let Virginia print their own currency. You get the picture.

Yes, this is like the spoiled housewife who was maxed out on her credit cards and kept reminding her husband how much he needed her. Truth is, she didn’t cook. She didn’t clean. She was almost never home- and kept meddling in the affairs of every other family on the block. She had so many clothes that her husband had no place to put his underwear. Finally one day the old man had enough. He longed for the day he’d been footloose and fancy-free. However, realizing divorce was just too expensive, he simply locked the refrigerator, cut up her credit cards, cancelled her cell phone and sold her Mercedes. The wife then threatened to leave and screamed, “How dare you shut me down!” To which the man calmly replied, “Don’t let the door hit ya in the butt on yer way out.” The woman waddled up to her room and stayed there for three weeks- during which time the husband saved enough money to pay off those credit cards and buy himself a new set of golf clubs…

He basically is running it with EO's and veto's...  He ignores federal judges both in Louisiana and Florida. That puts him in contempt of law. Does not matter to him and his commie czars at all.

Well put as usual! I agree, however, the states can nullify they can exercise the 10th amendment and zero and commies want to take over not just the country, they want to control each and every state. This can no continue, sadly there seems to be no answer for this mess we are in. As far as war if I recall correctly, we are at no declared war with any country. That makes us an occupying fource in countries we do not belong in. Bring them home, send to the boarder and give them order to shoot and ask questions later.  We have our own sate park in Arizona that has now a sign warning Americans to sty out becasue of the drug people. What is up with that!  I hope the darn government does shut down! We have been stretched as far as we can.. De-fund the EPA, rescind the patriot act, get some rights back..  No more bailouts, demand they repay it at government motors rather than allowing themselves to have a bonus? The system is beyond corrupt, it is running amuk with union thugs that have long been useless except for paying dues to the high up in charge and they are using the members. Zero illegally siezed the car compnaies, stuck his nose into Wall Street and when will it end? I think with the current list of fools the GOP has that may run in 2012, needs to be shored up. If they continue that path with a no one worth while  we will get four more year of Marxism for sure. Maybe we all should email Allan West and suggest he run for president?  Again, thanks for a good article..

I fear that if Congress shuts down the funding of government Pres. Obama will simply ignore Congress and govern by executive order... Even worse, he may use this event to declare a national emergency and suspend Congress, moving to Marshal Law.  Anything is possible with Obama and it is not outside of the template for socialist insurgencies to grab power in this manner.

We must be careful about how we shut down government... I would prefer that Congress separate out the ESSENTIAL elements of government and fund them individually. This would make it difficult for Obama to justify declaring an National Emergency and too arbitrarily continue funding government by executive order. 

Cutting off Grand-mother from her social security check or the terminally ill from Medicare funds may be a little harsh and could be the justification Obama needs to fund government by executive fiat. Let's not give him that opportunity or excuse. Congress should brake down the Budget Authorization Bill into separate bills, funding those elements of government that are essential and THEN THROW the circuit breaker on those not.

I like your analogy but lets not kick out the main breaker to our home... Instead, let's be selective and kick out only those circuits that are non-essential to our safety and welfare. Then let Obama justify vetoing things like Grand-Mothers social security check or the terminally ill and their Medicare payments. Let's work smarter and not harder or ignorantly... by walking into a waiting disaster.
