Dems Threaten Nelson In Pursuit of 60

While the Democrats appease Senator Lieberman, they still have to worry about other recalcitrant Democrats including Nebraska Senator Ben Nelson. Though Lieberman has been out front in the fight against the public option and the Medicare buy-in, Nelson was critical of both. Now that those provisions appear to have been stripped from the bill, Lieberman may get on board, but Nelson's demand that taxpayer money not be used to fund abortion has still not been met. According to a Senate aide, the White House is now threatening to put Nebraska's Offutt Air Force Base on the BRAC list if Nelson doesn't fall into line.

Offutt Air Force Base employs some 10,000 military and federal employees in Southeastern Nebraska. As our source put it, this is a "naked effort by Rahm Emanuel and the White House to extort Nelson's vote." They are "threatening to close a base vital to national security for what?" asked the Senate staffer.

Indeed, Offutt is the headquarters for US Strategic Command, the successor to Strategic Air Command, and not by accident. STRATCOM was located in the middle of the country for strategic reasons. Its closure would be a massive blow to the economy of the state of Nebraska, but it would also be another example of this administration playing politics with our national security.

Today it has been widely reported that Senator Ben Nelson (D) of Nebraska has declined to support the health care bill because it allows for government payments for abortions.

Now reports are coming out of Washington that he has been pressured - no, I say threatened - by members of the Obama administration. He was told, if you do not support this health care bill, then Offut Air Base in Omaha will soon show up on a base closure list. As you may know, Nebraska is ny home state and thia is an issue that should not be allowed to pass.

If reports I have heard about offut Air Base becoming a bargaining chip are true, then I would like to encourage you to stand firm in your resolve.
No American citizen should have to put up with this type of bullying or outright blackmail in order for the oposing side to obtain a favorable vote.
I say call their bluff and stand your ground. I would even go public with these blackmail tactics and shame them into backing down.
This is an outrage not only against all Nebraskans but also against every American citizen! Please do not back down and please stand firm for the
principles you believe in. I am behind you all the way on this one.

Please take the time to send an email or make a phone call right away. Thre is no time to lose on this. We must not allow our elected officials to be bullied into falling in line with the will of the Obama-Nation.

Talk about "The Chicago Way," and "bring a gun to a knife fight," this administration not only persecutes our U.S. Navy SEALs, for doing their jobs to defend America, but now they're threatening a critical blow to our nation's national security...WHEN WILL AMERICA WAKE UP!?!?!?

Please tell everybody about this, we cannot allow this to happen! And remind everybody what this administration is doing to our Navy SEALs!

Also, please contact the Senator and ask him to stand up for America, to go PUBLIC on this, and to demand the administration not use national security to extort his vote!
