Catching Ben Nelson Trying to Make Himself Look Honorable While Behaving Completely Dishonorably

Yesterday, showing real leadership, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) ground the United States Senate to halt for a brief time, making us wonder why Mitch McConnell had been unable to do that in the past month.

DeMint went down to the floor of the Senate and made a motion to suspend the rules of the Senate to allow the insertion of one more amendment into the health care legislation. His amendment? A prohibition on cash for cloture.

DeMint’s amendment, which he and Senator Richard Durbin (D-IL) had originally co-authored and passed back in 2007 only to see it killed, would prohibit Senators from accepting targeted earmarks for their states in exchange for votes on legislation. This time, Senator Durbin made a motion to table Senator DeMint’s effort, saying he did not understand why Senator DeMint would think an anti-cash for cloture amendment was needed.

Ben Nelson, of Cornhusker Hustle fame, went to the floor of the Senate to vote for Senator Durbin’s effort to kill the DeMint motion. But, once the fair Senator from Nebraska saw that there were enough votes, without his, to kill the DeMint effort, Nefarious Nelson went back and changed his vote.

There is just one problem for Ben Nelson. 700 miles away from the action in Washington, D.C., the lowly the Editor reached out to a Senate contact and got from the trash heap the actual factual very real Senate Clerk’s roll call tabulation sheet. (shown above)

You can see it for yourself right here. You’ll note how the Clerk put a line in the “Yea” column for Senator Nelson, then scratched through it, putting a line in the “Nay” column. That’s what the clerk does when a Senator switches his vote.

Senator Nelson, You are certainly not a man of honor as you want to appear to be. You are a skunk and a thief who only thinks of yourself and how much money you can make by dealing under the table and in the back rooms. I hope the people of Nebraska see through your crooked ways and you will soon be unemployed!

Dear Senator Nelson:

Thank You for bringing such reproach upon the State of Nebraska. It is sad to see that you are not a man of integrity but rather a crooked little man whose vote is for sale to the highest bidder. Oh, I know you will be bragging about how you brought home the bacon (or in this case the pork) for Nebraska. Most Nebraskans are hard working honest people and they certainly are not looking for a hand out. How could you ever say this is a fair deal when Nebraska will now get a free pass and the other states get to pay Nebraska's share? I am amazed that anyone in your position would think this was a fair deal and worthy of selling your vote. You sir have brought Nebraska to a new level of lowness in the eyes of the rest of the nation. How sad for Nebraska, that they are represented by a man with such low standards. There was a time when politicians worked their dirty little deeds in secrecy and in the back rooms. But you are not ashamed and you are willing to do it in full view of the general public and then have the audacity to proclaim it as a great victory for Nebraska. Nothing could be further from the truth. You have brought a great stain upon the people of the great state of Nebraska that will not be easily cleaned up. You will no doubt be gone after the next election but your stench will linger on. Congratulations Mr. Nelson, you will go down in history as the worst politician ever to represent Nebraska! I wish to extend my deepest sympathy to all people of Nebraska!
