Barbour Endorses LeMieux in Fla. Senate Race

Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux’s campaign to represent Florida in the Senate again has picked up the endorsement of Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour. The former Republican National Committee chairman cited the LeMieux’s conservative credentials.

"George is a solid conservative who served the people of Florida well in the U.S. Senate,” he said. “I am happy to lend my support to his campaign."

LeMieux served 16 months in the Senate as the appointed replacement for Sen. Mel Martinez, R-Fla., who retired. He announced his candidacy to challenge Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson in April.

"I am honored to earn the support of a principled conservative like Haley Barbour,” LeMieux said. “When Governor Barbour was RNC chairman, he helped orchestrate the Republican Revolution in 1994 that built the type of conservative majorities we need to turn our country around.

"More importantly, from his leadership during hurricane Katrina to his work passing key pro-life legislation, Governor Barbour is a case study in effective conservative governance."
