Comment by Elizabeth Parella on September 30, 2009 at 6:25am: Yesterday, we received a call from a "nurse" purporting to be with AARP/United Healthcare who wanted to speak with my husband. I asked what the call was in reference to. She wanted to know if there were any medical "issues" he was experiencing.

Now, call me paranoid, but there was NO WAY I would have put my wonderful significant other on with this woman...no way in hell! He's a bit naive and would have kvetched about this and that (I know him so well!) and I didn't want anything said that might have formed the basis for a "record" of his illnesses and problems.

I told her we were not interested in her call and jotted down the 888 number she gave me. My lovely hubby asked me what the call was about and he expressed some interest in talking with her. I told him that it would not be appropriate and that he was being serviced quite adequately indeed by his private doctors and did not need to speak to anyone from AARP's group under any circumstances.

This likely will not be the first of these telephone calls...so I'll just have to continue answering the calls to stop the information-gathering in its tracks.

Has any other senior received such a call?
