My husband and I took his mother to this film when it was first released.
Hard to watch? Absolutely! This is the most humbling thing I've EVER watched.
Even then........I couldn't help but ask 'WHY'? The people in the time of Jesus were far more
pius than those of our time. Few recognized Him, many reviled Him and tried to destroy Him by nailing Him on a cross...the most horrifying execution method of the day as those who were crucified
slowly suffocated.
The scourging scene made me want to get on my knees and beg for forgiveness, when they pushed the crown of thorns into His head I, again asked "WHY"?!? Why should the Son of God suffer such incredible pain and humiliation for humans who would, in a far away future, think nothing of killing an innocent infant before it has a chance to live. Humans who do everything in their power to remove all mention of Him from our consciousness and push their secular lack of morality on us and our children.
When they nailed His hands to the cross, hands that had healed the bodies and souls of all who asked, I felt profoundly sad and even more profoundly unworthy of the sacrifice offerred by
the Lamb of God.
In the midst of the events occurring world wide and in this country, the only country in the history of man to have been based on God's commandments. The basic beliefe that we have been ENDOWED by our CREATOR with certain unalienable rights to LIFE, LIBERTY and the PURSUIT of HAPPINESS.
Why do human beings presume to raise themselves above God? Why don't we learn that whenever we forget or forego what should be our first alliance and the first of the two greatest of God's commandments "To love the Lord your God with your whole heart and soul"?
The Israelites fell to temptation when Moses was recieving the Ten Commandments and built a golden calf to worship in the absence of their spiritual leader. I think it can safely be said that the people of today have also given in to worshiping the golden calf of secualrism.

He is, again, calling us back, how will we answer Him?
