I watched most of this this afternoon and was moved by everything I saw and heard. I then hopped in my car for the hour drive to the barn to visit my ponies and listened to XM Patriot and the tributes offerred there. There were quotes read and parts of speeches played and I found myself thinking back to the things about Ronald Reagan that appealed to me at the time of his presidency as well as the things which awakened my sense of conservancy at the time he was the President and which reinforce my conservancy even more strongly today.

The first thing that appealed to me was the honest to goodness BELIEVABILITY, not only in the man but in his beliefs. He BELIEVED everything he said to us.......he believed in smaller government........not only that, he believed in the ability of the American People to be able to HANDLE various issues which might come our way. He never once thought that ANY business was "TOO BIG TO FAIL" and thus had to be bailed out by the taxpayers. If a company came upon tough times, it either failed or was reorganized and was made profitable once again but NEVER under the thumb of the GOVERNMENT!

He said "The most frightening words in the English language are ...'I'm from the government and I'm here to help'"! and he MEANT it.....................AND HE WAS CORRECT!

He was, contrary to the news media of the time, a PEACE MAKER. He believed in Peace through STRENGTH! He once said he wanted to be "the one who said "NYET to the Soviets"! and he was. He negotiated a nuclear treaty resulting in a DECREASE in the number of nukes on both our side and the Soviet side. He ended the 'cold war', putting forth the plea for peace and prosperity for the USSR and Eastern Europe when he asked Michael Gorbachov to "TEAR DOWN THIS WALL".

He wished to see the end of Lenninism and Marxism with their remnants upon the "Ash heap of history".

Is the United States of America, today destined to become that "ash heap"?

Are there enough of us willing to stand up and tell the truth of our history? To our children? Our grandchildren? [they actually think it is very cool........mine suspect I may have actually been there so they really listened!]

Someone said it took four years of Carter to get Reagan........I pray we can be that fortunate again!
