Note to Cotton Essex: Does it not seem that the unions have hurt businesses? Do you not think that the ever-increasing demands by unions have bankrupted our cities and states? Do you wonder why all the manufacturing jobs have gone to other countries? Do you really believe we can compete in the global marketplace with expensive labor union contracts which include so-called Cadillac plans for healthcare and very generous retirement packages which are based on a ton of overtime worked within a certain time period prior to retirement? Union members (like the teachers' union) are disciplined with full pay and put in so-called "rubber" rooms where they do nothing but play cards, watch television, etc., because they cannot be fired for their miscreant ways.... Is it any wonder that "the folks" are just plain fed up with unions and their strongarm tactics?

The unions were definitely needed at one point in time in this country...and you're living in that point of time. The world has changed, and unions must change with it.

Case in point, Rhode Island: The governer had asked that state union workers stay home for 3 to 5 days a year so that the state could get its costs under control. The unions in the state brought the case to a court which ruled that this could not be done by the Governor. Result? There will be LAYOFFS instead of the union members having a few unpaid days a year. Congatulations to the unions on that move....

There are plenty of non-union members who are taking less pay, working shorter hours for less pay, just to keep their jobs? The answer of many unions: STRIKE! Well, the ordinary folks in this country CANNOT STRIKE. They must pay their bills and do whatever it takes to feed their families and keep their homes...and they ARE doing it at great sacrifice. Where's the sacrifice of the union membership????

Excellent posting! We must be sure to put as much pressure on the Congress NOT to enact Card Check. This is a blatant payback to the unions who donate so much money to corrupt politicians... AND we must not forget that the so-called healthcare bill MAY benefit the unions in that it will infuse funds into their healthcare packages which are nearly bankrupt.
