Immigration law supporters met with protestors

AUSTIN (KXAN) - Father and son JD and Jeremy Lamb chose to celebrate their birthday at the Capitol today. Holding Texas state flags, they are showing their support for Arizona's controversial immigration law, Senate Bill 1070 .

"This country was founded on immigrants, my ancestors were immigrants, but when you break the law -- if you come here illegally, you are breaking the law -- that needs to be stopped," said supporter JD Lamb.

About 100 people joined the pair. What started out as a small, organized rally by the Texans for Arizona's New Immigration Law , in support of Arizona's immigration law, turned into a confrontation. Just after the rally kicked off, about 75 protestors marched up the south sidewalk on the Capitol grounds to crash the party. The music of The Watts Brothers was drowned by protestors chanting, "No justice, no peace." They marched holding signs saying, "One People, Many Cultures, No Borders."

The protestors represented several local organizations against Arizona's law DPS troopers set up a dividing line, creating a human block, keeping distance between the two groups to make sure the showdown didn't escalate to more than a shouting match.

"To this point in 2010 having a racist law in which you criminalize and say, that you gonna identify somebody for looking suspicious in the community, it's enough you know," said passionate opponent Roberto Flotte. "It's like the civil rights movement, when people just got tired of being marked of being stereotyped of being treated as second-class citizens. People get tired, you know."

Speaking from the podium on a loud speaker, one Arizona law supporter shouted to the group of protestors. "Shut up, we're sick of the hypocrisy."

And that's how the rally continued and eventually wrapped up with both groups at odds with each other. No meeting of the minds was apparent.

Comment by LANYON on June 14, 2010 at 3:44pm: ALL pro-amnesty, illegal immigration demonstrations are promoted and financed by the unions - SEIU, LA RAZA, ACLU, and all participants are PAID a daily rate for being in the demonstration. The financing comes from the World Labor Organization, the Communist Party USA, and the Socialist Party. All these radical demonstrations are done with the blessings of the Communist members of the US Congress (Black Caucus, Hispanic Caucus) Bernie Sanders et al. This has all to do with votes for the Democrats, together with their attempt to pass the Universal Vote Bill that will give Illegal immigrants and imprisoned criminals the "right to vote". So, not only empty lots, deceased, ghost voters, people in mental institutions, jigging the voting machines, but also Soros' program to buy the Secretaries of State.
