WASHINGTON (AP) — The former Internal Revenue Service official at the heart of the agency's tea party scandal once again refused to answer questions at a congressional hearing Wednesday that quickly devolved into political bickering between Democrats and Republicans.

Lois Lerner headed the IRS division that improperly targeted tea party and other conservative groups for extra scrutiny when they applied for tax-exempt status during the 2010 and 2012 elections. She was the first IRS official to publicly disclose the targeting, issuing an apology on behalf of the agency at a law conference in May 2013.

But when she was called to testify before the House Oversight Committee a few days later, she invoked her Fifth Amendment right not to incriminate herself. Committee Chairman Darrell Issa recalled Lerner for a hearing Wednesday.

Lerner appeared with her lawyer, but she invoked the Fifth Amendment at least nine times when questioned by Issa.

Issa, a California Republican, quickly adjourned the hearing despite attempts by Rep. Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the committee, to make a statement. At one point, Issa said, "Shut it down," and Cummings' microphone was turned off.

Afterward, Cummings, of Maryland, said he wanted to point out that despite Republican claims of a political conspiracy, the committee's investigation so far has not shown any political motivation by IRS agents. The investigation also hasn't shown any links to the White House, Cummings said.

Last year, the IRS's inspector general released a yearlong audit that found agents had improperly targeted conservative political groups for additional and sometimes onerous scrutiny when those groups applied for tax-exempt status.

The IRS watchdog blamed ineffective management by senior IRS officials for allowing it to continue for nearly two years during the 2010 and 2012 elections.

Since the revelations became public last year, much of the agency's leadership has been replaced and the Justice Department has started a criminal investigation. The IRS has also proposed new rules for handling applications from so-called social welfare organizations.

Every single day something more outrageous than what we heard the day before rears its ugly head.....

Government spending has passed the point of absurdity long ago......the debt is unsustainable but Congress does NOTHING to stop it....they even keep raising the 'debt ceiling' and the morons in the house just nod their heads and give in to this spoiled man-child in the White House.

For YEARS democrats have used people as props to promote their legislation, when real Americans appear on commercials stating that the Affordable Care Act will result in their DEATH because their insurence plans had been canceled & they no longer would recieve needed medications, the Senate Majority Leader stands on the floor of the UNITED STATES SENATE and calls them all LIARS, bought and paid for by the Koch Brothers and NOBODY MAKES AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE! Has anyone looked into the George Soros contributions or involvement in media outlets???????????????? NO!!!!! Will anyone SUE Harry Ried for SLANDER??????

Every single day my inbox is FLOODED with stories that are not only disturbing but SICKENING.....Planned Parenthood of the North East [they recieved in excess of $2.75 MILLION of our tax dollars last year] have created an online "program" actually PROMOTING bondage and sadomasachism [so?] to TEENS>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>SERIOUSLY.......................................WTF?!?!?!?!?

Then there is the story of a new postal stamp 'honoring' one 'Harvey Milk'.........................a known pediphile....................

We have had Fast & Furious, Benghazi, the NSA, FBI, IRS scandles resulting in .............anyone???????..............I'm waiting...................................'and the winner IS?????'.......... anyone???

How has it come to pass that this Land that I LOVE has become a place I no longer recognise...........how can it be that our 'leaders' are treasonous, self serving bullies and none of us are willing to stand up to them and demand that they give us our country back? How can it be that what was once a "SHINING CITY on a HILL" has become a cess pool of corruption, driven by men and women who court us for votes like a lover might court us but when given the position they desire turn away from us as if we were lepers?

How can it be that the FREE PRESS has become a creature belonging to those in power, forfeiting the priviledge of being the eyes and ears that we depended on to protect our liberty for the opportunity to be invited into the lair of the enemies of everything our founders sacrificed their "lives, fortunes and SACRED HONOR" to leave us a truly blessed country concieved and birthed by their sacrifices?

We can all sit at our computers and bang away on the keyboards to our hearts' content but how will we actually achieve RESULTS?

I have lived the greater part of my life but my heart breaks for my daughter, son, their wonderful spouses, my precious grandchildren...............................if WE won't fight for them......who will?

Congress, at which time she would be taken into custody and placed in a cell.

If this Congress continues to operate like a bunch of mind numbed CASTROTTI they all need to be replaced in Nov.........ALL OF THEM!!!!!

It's the strategy the liberal progressive democrat machine would/will use to get the answers that will expose the white administration in ALL the scandals.

The current list of congressional Republicans are WEAK! They have no guts! They are afraid to uncover ANY truths that underlie Obama and the liberal progressive democrat machine LIES INCLUDING the qualifications of Obama to be president.
