BEING HEARD........a lesson from Reagan
A lot has been said in recent weeks by the media trying to compare President Obama to Ronald Reagan. Of course – there is no comparison. The media raves about Obama’s great speaking skills, when actually, his speaking ability is not all that good. He has trained himself to be fairly good at reading a teleprompter, but even that does not work out so well at times!
To illustrate the difference between “The Great Communicator” and President Obama, over the next several days, we will post some of Ronald Reagan’s best moments, and some of President Obama’s gaffes. To be sure, as with any human being, Reagan had his moments that were not so good – but nothing on the scale of President Obama.
To start off with, above is video of Ronald Reagan on February 23, 1980 in Nashua, New Hampshire. Reagan had agreed to underwrite the cost of a debate with rival George H.W. Bush, but also wanted to include other GOP candidates. When the debate moderator “Mr. Green” threatened to shut off Reagan’s microphone to prevent him from speaking, Reagan spontaneously took the microphone and said, “I’m paying for this microphone, Mr. Green.” In that moment, Reagan displayed his strength and ability to act under pressure. He went on to win the New Hampshire Primary and the GOP Nomination.
