Following, are historical facts. Although the U.S. has strategically employed "scorched earth" tactics in various conflicts as well, it is not the purpose of this article to disparage the tactical strategy as a legitimate tool in the art of waging war. The point being, our enemies have used these tactics in attempts to defeat us, or to defend their armies. Analagously speaking, "Scorched Earth", is being waged against American culture and Heritage, in the waning days of the 111^th Congress, by people whose agenda is to "...fundamentally transform the United States of America"...through supposedly bloodless legislative tactics which are by definition, MARXIST.

The clandestine Marxists in Congress have now overplayed their hand, and have laid bare, in stark contrast, the evil of their true agenda. There is no doubt that they now realize they have only limited time left before the 112^th Congress takes the oath. Their time is suddenly short, their days are numbered. In the tradition of Stalin, Hitler, and Sadaam, they will attempt to inflict as much damage on our Nation they can through their Scorched Earth tactics.

 

There can no longer be any doubt by those who are familiar with Communist Doctrine, that the current administration is a Marxist cabal, hell-bent on destroying our American Heritage, replacing it with pseudo-intellectual Communist theory. One only needs to read the Communist Manifesto if any verification or confirmation of this is desired. Any lingering doubt that the current administration regards average, Tea-Partying Americans as it's enemy need only to refer to it's commander-in-cheif''s own words, recently uttered, when he refered to them as "our enemies".

Americans spent generations, of precious blood and sacrifice, defending her noble calling of Liberty, Capitalism, Justice, Sanctity of Life, and Christianity. Then, through their own apathy, traded it all for a vague campaign slogan based on one word. "Change". And sold out their posterity, (their future generations), to a two-bit Chicago thug who glorified his previous avocation, "Community Organizer", as if organized agitation was as respectable a calling as say, the Clergy.

 

Thankfully, it didn’t take long for true Americans to realize the error of their ways, to wit, November 2, 2010, and to begin the process, proscribed for them by their Founding Fathers, of re-claiming that precious Heritage, and cleansing this nation of it’s rot.

 

Following is a brief summary of the Scorched Earth tactic as it pertains to Military strategy. There are no differences in the effects of Scorched Earth, be it Military, or legislative. It all results in severe damage to the culture upon which it is perpetrated.

A scorched earth policy is a military strategy , or operational method, which involves destroying anything that might be useful to the enemy while advancing through or withdrawing from an area. Although initially referring to the practice of burning crops to deny the enemy food sources, in its modern usage the term includes the destruction of infrastructure such as shelter, transportation, communications and industrial resources. The practice may be carried out by an army in enemy territory, or its own home territory. It may overlap with, but is not the same as, punitive destruction of an enemy's resources, which is done for purely strategic/political reasons rather than strategic/operational reasons. It was most famously used against Napoleon's and Hitler's armies invading Russia.

 

The strategy of destroying the food supply of the civilian population in an area of conflict has been banned under Article 54 of Protocol I of the 1977 Geneva Conventions. The relevant passage says:

It is prohibited to attack, destroy, remove, or render useless objects indispensable to the survival of the civilian population, such as foodstuffs, agricultural areas for the production of foodstuffs, crops, livestock, drinking water installations and supplies, and irrigation works, for the specific purpose of denying them for their sustenance value to the civilian population or to the adverse Party, whatever the motive, whether in order to starve out civilians, to cause them to move away, or for any other motive.Despite being prohibited, it is still a common practice. The protocol only applies to those countries that have ratified it, notable exceptions being the United States, Israel, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, and Iraq.

 

World War I

 

The Russian army used scorched earth strategy during its retreat in summer/autumn of 1915.

On 24 February 1917, the German army made a strategic scorched earth withdrawal from the Somme battlefield to the prepared fortifications of the Hindenburg Line, thereby shortening the front line they had to occupy.

 

World War II

 

When Germany attacked the Soviet Union in 1941, Joseph Stalin ordered both soldiers and civilians to initiate a scorched earth policy to deny the invaders basic supplies as they moved eastward. The process was repeated later in the war by the retreating German forces, which burned or destroyed farms, buildings, weapons, and food to deprive Soviet forces of their use.

 

At the close of World War II, Finland, which had made a separate peace with the Allies, was required to evict the German forces, which had been fighting against the Soviets alongside the Finnish troops in the Northern part of the country. Finnish forces, under the leadership of general Hjalmar Siilasvuo, struck aggressively in August 1944 by making a landfall at Tornio. This accelerated the German retreat, and by November 1944 the Germans had left most of northern Finland. The German forces, forced to retreat due to overall strategic situation, covered their retreat towards Norway by devastating large areas of northern Finland using scorched earth strategy. More than one-third of the dwellings in the area were destroyed, and the provincial capital Rovaniemi was burned to the ground. All but two bridges in Lapland Province were blown up and roads mined.

In Northern Norway which was at the same time invaded by Soviet forces in pursuit of the retreating German army in 1944, the Germans also undertook a scorchedearth policy, destroying every building that could offer shelter and thus interposing a belt of "scorched earth" between themselves and the allies.

 

In 1945, Adolf Hitler ordered his minister of armaments Albert Speer to carry out a nationwide scorched earth policy, in what became known as the Nero Order. Hitler felt that the German people had shown themselves to be weak, and undeserving of a leader such as himself. Having failed their test of character, they should be condemned to destruction.( This is eerily similar to Chairman Mao’Bama’s current attitude and assessment of having been "Shellacked" in November. ) Speer, who was looking to the future, actively resisted the order, just as he had earlier refused Hitler's command to destroy French industry when the Wehrmacht was being driven out of France, and managed to continue doing so even after Hitler became aware of his actions.

 

Gulf War

During the Gulf War in 1990 when Iraqi forces were driven out of Kuwait they set the oil wells on fire. The possible reasons for this are discussed in more detail in the article on the Kuwaiti oil fires.

The best example of the "scorched earth" policy against Americans is WACO!! I am not a Dividian and know little about them but the tactics used there by our government against these men, women, children and babies were deplorable and literally sickening.  I do NOT doubt that this government, as it now stands, would use the same tactics on any of us. Labeling us "terrorists" or the like just makes it easier to explain the rest of country.

You're right LadyFyre, if this NEW legislature that begins the turn around starting in January even "blinks" towards a compromise with the enemy they shall be shunned and removed.
We have a huge responsibility to follow through on our vote, we have to hold the new congress accountable. We have to stay tuned, we have to remain sharp, we have to remain engaged. We can't walk away yet and think we've won. The hardest part of citizenship remains, more listening, more discussions, more voting, more removal of politicians who refuse to listen to WE the People.

Don't forget the defeat of the Temp Earmark Ban (Amnd into S.510 Food Safety), and unconscionable legal action against a sovereign state (AZ) by the federal government! Whenever and wherever possible, this 'administration' has circumvented Congress, and thus the American people.

So much damage has already been done, with so much more in the works! As Pelosi said, "You go through the gate. If the gate's closed, you go over the fence. Now is not the time for apathy or complacency my friends, now is the time to harden OUR resolve!

If the START Treaty was so important why did they waste EIGHT days in a Lame Duck Session to pass a food bill that could have waited a few weeks? Time to cut 'em off at the pass before they do any more damage.This quacking Congress needs to pass an extension of the Bush tax cuts, fund government thru the end of the year and GO HOME!
