People just do not get the idea of separation of church and state. It seems that everyone is wrong about it.
Christians are right that those words are not in the Constitution, but the establishment clause absolutely does create a separation. 

Christians should LOVE this and anti-Christians should HATE this.

Because the separation is a complete separation of federal law and religion. 

Congress cannot mandate it and they cannot prohibit it. It is that simple. Congress cannot establish ANY law with regards to religion.

So, you are right that they have no authority in churches...and the IRS has no legal authority whatsoever, but that is another article.

But it goes farther than that. Congress cannot create ANY law. This means that they could hold worship service prior to every session of Congress...so long as they do not create a law which mandates it...and they cannot prohibit it by law either.

A separation does not mean that no federal employee can mention religion on public property. It means that if they so choose, they cannot be prohibited and they cannot be compelled if they choose not to.

Constitutionally, Pastors could stand up and declare that anyone who votes for a democrat is a sinner...his congregation could punish him, but neither the federal government nor the IRS has any power to do so.

It is very simple. THEY CAN CREATE NO LAW WITH REGARDS TO RELIGION IN ANY WAY. 

I would call this a separation that we can get behind.
