ON YONDER GALLOWS TREE

 

If that dirty dog weren’t dead, I would kill him,

and I’d be hangin’ high from yonder gallows tree.

I hope he rots in Hell forever,

and lucky me, I’m still walkin’ free.

 

I can’t tell you what he done, but I’d kill him just for fun.

There’s a special place in Hell for men like him.

If he was still alive, he never would survive.

I’d hunt him down- his days on Earth be done.

 

Though “the mills of God grind slowly and grind exceedingly small,”

A dirty dog like him will always get what’s due.

I can’t tell you what he done, but I’d shoot him just for fun-

and be hangin’ high, be hangin’ high, that’s true.

There are things I can’t forgive, I would never let him live.

May Almighty God have mercy on my soul.

I hope he rots in Hell, though that tale I’ll never tell.

That dog ain’t worth a lump of Kentucky coal.
