5,280 linear feet (X) 5,280 linear feet = 1 square mile (67,878,400 square feet).

 

There are 67,878,400 square feet in just one square mile. A square foot is about the size of your morning newspaper, folded in half. Stand on it. You are one person, standing on one square foot.

 

Mathematically then, nearly 68 million people would fit into 1 square mile. All six billion people on planet earth would fit into 21.4 square miles. (They would be pretty miserable, though, being that close together!)

 

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA IS ONLY 25 SQUARE MILES, WHICH IS .O2 PERCENT OF NEVADA'S TOTAL LAND AREA (250,000 SQUARE MILES). Therefore, the whole world's current population of 6 billion would fit, side by side, into Las Vegas.

 

The video is correct, even allowing everyone a house with a yard!

There's LOTS to discuss about the above videos.

There ARE lots of people in the world.

There ARE lots of starving people in the world.

There IS lots of food in the world.

There IS a problem of distribution of food in the world.

There ARE lots of people living where enough food does not grow.

There are countries that would keep their people in poverty unable to buy enough food.

The US has been feeding their surplus food to people for more then 50 years.

Etc. etc. etc.

We can STILL do better.

 

I challenge the statement that says, "all the world's people could live comfortably in a place the size of Texas".

(....but it IS comforting to know that, even if the entire ALIEN population of the outside world were to ILLEGALLY cross the Rio Grande, we can fit them all into a space equal to that of Las Vegas!)
