Our Founders Couldn't Get Elected Today

A TROUBLING THOUGHT: Isn't it more than ironic that today both the Right AND the Left routinely idolize, deify and politically invoke the virtues of Lincoln. Why?

This might surprise some of you, but like Lincoln, both the modern Left and Right subscribe to a consolidated, monopolistic central government model. (Yup, our hero was a big government, one-party rule kinda' guy. And in shaping such a top-heavy, unitary government, he played the game for keeps. Bye-Bye federalism.)

In effect, we now have Left-wing totalitarians and Right-wing socialists (neo-Cons, RINOs). Exceptions like Paul, Lee, Gohmert, Blackburn etc. comprise but a tiny minority within the ruling class. Thus, our leaders' and our own faithfulness to the principles of limited, efficient government and dual federal-state sovereignty are, at the very best, tenuous and, most certainly, of scant constructive effect.

There are many, many years of bad governing habits to overcome if we are to once again return to our Founders' bedrock principles of government. And in this what's-in-it-for-me bread and circuses atmosphere, I'm no longer sure that most of us are any longer fully committed to returning to those principles.

In truth, given the severe foundational damage wrought by years of violations and neglect since the Constitutional Convention, my guess is that brilliant luminaries like Madison, Jefferson, Morris, Adams and Franklin wouldn't stand a chance in the once hallowed halls of Capitol Hill in 2017. Hell, they'd be lucky to even get elected.

Yup. We've come a long way--in the wrong direction.

How does 20 something (T)rillion dollars in debt sound to you?

Talk about a Fiduciary run amok!

This latest congress, although concocting a tax reduction plan will, at the same time, increase that 20 (T)rillioon dollar debt.

To their credit, at least this congress is going to pass a "budget" something never done during the Obama democrat congress.

I dunno Raya,

One of our members some time ago suggested that us citizens withhold paying taxes or changing the numbers of personal exemptions from our paycheck withholding so that less money gets automatically deducted.

LOL no one wanted to be the first one to volunteer to see if the rest of us would follow suit.

As far as waiting for congress to stop spending .  .  .  or reducing taxes like President Trump wants, all we have to do is wait for the end of this year to see how that promise works for yea.

As in prior conservative administrations, smaller government and budgets and less spending with fewer taxes never quite seems to last more than one presidential term.

Jim,

you and I and hundreds of other members of REAL CONSERVATIVES  have had our finger on the pulse of our nation's patriotism for a long time. We know there are collectively millions of us across this nation, we can feel it.

For a few years we made ourselves heard as we came forth as the Tea Party.  We actually achieved large enough numbers in congress to cause some things to happen. Of course our problems weren't the democrats or more broadly the liberals, progressives, and their media, our problem was and is the political party we thought was on our side, the Republican Party.

The Republican Party with help from the media and the democrats effectively made the TEA PARTY irrelevant in a relatively short time. Today, do you even hear a reference to any Tea Party members? If there are some, they sure don't put it on their letter head any longer.

What's worse than the organized Republican Party (RNC) turning their backs on us, is seeing past conservative leaders taking  positions against the current President who ran as a Republican. President Trump is being harassed, criticized, and being called names by the last TWO Republican Presidents. His campaign promises remain largely unfulfillied because of push back by democrats but also epic foot dragging by Republicans in congress. Never mind that it was President Trump we chose over a "Clinton" and the other Republican establishmant RINOs, We the People no longer matter.
From my vanatage point after President Trump's innauguration, I see a HUGE political machine has been developing to take power away from us. Our governemnt no longer asnswers to We the People, We the People answer to our government. President Trump struggles with the democrats of course but he meets opposition daily from the Republican Party. Both partys seem to be joined at the hip to bring chaos to President Trump and his administration. Hell, somehow with Obama holdovers,  the Department of Justice has already appointed a Special Prosecutor (independent investigator) to see if candidate Trump "colluded" with the Russians to change the outcome of the election. President Trump's selection as attorney general, Jeff Sessions, has recused himself claiming conflict of interest. This of course allowed former Obama attorneys with the DOJ to choose their own special prosecutors! How convenient!
The DOJ, FBI, CIA, ATF, IRS, etc. etc. etc. ALL HAVE BEEN COMPROMISED.
Most astonishing to me however has been the incidental/accidental exposure by President Trump of the "DEEP STATE", a complete governmental subsystem existing inside our government which has an agenda all it's own. It exists in ALL departments, agencies, and bureaus. It is destroying the original concepts of our nation's Constitution on a hundred levels and puts honest people/citizens behind bars while letting criminal enterprises thrive. The good guys seem to have lost control. You said it in your book Jim,
 A PATRIOTS CALL TO ACTION,
"After nearly five years of researching and close observation, I began to understand that We the People have been essentially alienated by the political elites, so many of whom have abandoned our founders' wisdom and common sense, brashly ignored the lessons of history, and , in the process, undermined the foundations of our constitution. In truth, voicing my concerns to my "representatives" has been reduced to a exasperating exercise in futility."
We know now that our nation is in peril. We've known it for some time. We're hard at work trying to find a way to save her. It's going to take more than politics as usual, it's going to require a new paradigm.
We used to begin to organize at grass root levels, using hundreds of thousands of volunteers. That doesn't seem to have worked. With an enemy already established within our government, new strategies need to be explored.
The problem with any movement by citizens, it requires most change be done by law and vote. What about change by some other medium . . . . is this the place in time where AI rears it's ugly head? Artificial Intelligence? Can "honesty" be programmed into our government through the use of artificial intelligence? Should AI be feared or invited?
Can AI defeat a DEEP STATE?

Great observation, Philip. But a convention of states is not the answer. The remedies are already in our Constitution. The problem is our unwillingness to enforce it. Adding more amendments which will, in turn, be ignored by the People and their representative is akin to chasing one's tail. In fact, its remedies might well be worse than the disease. At first an advocate of COS, Iin my subsequent  research of COS it is clear that the better avenue is pushing congress for an amendment to repeal the 17th Amendment. Nothing glamorous, but, if ratified, a first giant and important step to restoring state-federal dual authority, a Jeffersonian foundational principle Lincoln's needless and avoidable war destroyed in 1864. A runaway convention is a real possibility, no matter what the COS advocates promise. (Remember what happened in 1787. Delegates dispatched to amend the Article of Confederation, and whamo, a new Constitution.) Also how the delegates are selected is a cause for serious concern. And the fact that some really far left groups (like Soros-supported orgs) are supportive of a COS should give us all pause. In short, have no delusions about a COS.  It really is a CONSTITUTIONAL CONVENTION and God knows what "statesmen"(any remaining?) , thugs and lobbyists will end up being delegates.  (For an excellent analysis of COS, I recommend your reading and listening to Publius Huldah, her blog or her presentations on YouTube. The best I've read or seen so far.)

The other recourse is to push States to start nullifying any and all unconstitutional federal edicts/rulings/laws/regulations. No easy task. Would require a herculean grassroots effort at the State level to accomplish this. Not sure most patriots are up to the task. But, NULLIFICATION would absolutely stop federal tyranny cold. The challenge is to  convince States and their citizens to cease being bought off and enslaved by Leviathan. Handouts keep States the vassals the feds intend them to be--a gigantic departure from our foundational principles of government. Convincing States to live within their means is a tall order, since its citizens have to be convinced as well. Good luck with that. Finally, if all else fails, organize for secession. Unity at ANY price is suicidal. With secession, at least in some portion(s) of the country a greater level of  respect for the Rule of Law, individual Liberty, free enterprise and constitutional governance can be possible. In this poor excuse for a "united" constitutional republic, these virtues have scant chance for success. My sincere belief is that the union has outgrown its usefulness--too unwieldy to accommodate constitutional rule. The Founders warned of this and fully expected a peaceful break-up into confederations. The so-called and misnamed "civil war" was foreseen by these wise apostles of limited, manageable, constitutional government. What they didn't foresee is the incredible and entirely preventable level of bloodshed attending what should have been a peaceful separation of the south from the union.

Or, we could  somehow agree to break up into 4 or 5 more manageable regions each of which would, in turn, send delegates to a much more limited central government. This sort of arrangement would ensure a more sensible, meaningful ratio of citizens to representatives. 1:40K or so vs the currently insane1:700K. Such a gaping ratio invites authoritarian rule, which we now have in spades. But, the remedies I allude to here require grassroots engagement. I don't see that happening unless everything came painfully tumbling down upon top us. So, either step-by-step amendments to restore the Constitution as originally intended, STATE NULLIFICATION (with teeth), secession, or, if all else fails, rebellion. No easy solution, I'm afraid. Keeping our Liberty was never expected to be an easy task. But, again, it all comes down to local engagement of patriots; otherwise, what will be will be for those who no longer believe they are the masters of their own fate. Anyway, sorry for streaming here. Just wanted to weigh in. Keep up the good work, sir!

Watching President trump negotiate this stagnating, bloated, stinking morass, of a government has opened the curtain on a future none of us want for ourselves or our children.

Is there a way forward for a nation in need of morality and a clear Christian value centric way to organize our patriotic peoples?

A convention of states would seem a starting point but all I see in that direction is chaos the closer you get to convention time.

Is there anything else?
