I discontinued my membership for a couple of months due to personal issues and lack of time for writing. I am now re-posting my first blog.
“Material things can be burned, looted and taken away. In the end, what matters is what we leave behind..... what we stood for and believed in, and what we did to improve our country and save it for our children and grandchildren!
My husband and I are in our mid sixties. Neither of us had any plans to marry again at this stage in our lives, but fortunately God had another plan in store for us. We were married last October with a glorious hope of growing old together. No longer alone and working together to enjoy my two sons and the rearing of my grandchildren! We had plans to travel together and enjoy our golden years.
My husband had a profitable business that involved real estate, and I had my retirement and social security. Due to the rosy glow of a new marriage, we didn’t become concerned about our future until we began watching the 2008 election campaign in earnest and realized that something was very foul with this CHANGE candidate.
We talked, blogged, attended local tea parties, screamed at the TV during his speeches and put bumper stickers on our vehicles. We wore the t-shirts and watched in dismay with each radical fact that was being disclosed- the media ignoring or suppressing it. With the election results on the morning of 12 November, we both got this awful, sinking, dismal, sick feeling…
Looking back on what now seems like a lifetime, I find it hard to believe that in just eight short months, our plans have crumbled, because my husband’s job contracts came to an abrupt halt one month into our marriage. We hesitated to leave our home office for fear of missing a business call for a bid request. No longer able to pay his state and local business license fees, we allowed them to expire. Bills started to slip in arrears. The job market was grim due to our age. No one admitted to age discrimination, but we know it was a factor. We prayed, cried, struggled through the Winter, Spring, and Summer and by God’s grace, have survived.
Fortunately, choosing the ‘glass half full’ outlook has given us a new perspective. We have spent much more time educating ourselves about what went wrong with our once glorious nation. We were able to watch and observe the slippery slope- Obama pushing at breakneck speed to spend an alarming amount of money and pushing bills through congress before they could even be read. We began to investigate solutions. We are involved with our local tea party committee, helping organize and promote events. We have kept a notebook of reply letters from our congressmen and senators. We watch their voting record and call and write their offices.
My husband has found a part time job in a bakery. He stands on concrete with his bad back and feet- in a hot kitchen starting at 2:00 AM. And we are grateful for that job…
We have learned sadly that we should never allow ourselves to grow complacent or to trust our government, but to stay awake and fight for our freedom. And FIGHT we are prepared to do!
We would rather have our senior patriot blood spilled on the White House lawn at a Tea Party event than allow this dark enemy of our freedom to ruin any hope for our children and grandchildren to have the kind of life we enjoyed in the days of Ronald Reagan…
Yes, those good old days when family values, Judeo Christian principles, our beloved constitution and the right to free speech were respected and upheld. We just keep reminding ourselves that at least we found each other and are able to fight the good fight together- rather than alone. We’ve lost all the material things, but we still have our resolve and our love for each other. And for that blessing, we thank our God everyday.
We have agreed go to the guillotine or a firing squad if necessary, but the last words on our trembling lips will be GOD BLESS AMERICA!”
