The Simple Solution to our Economic Problems

It is amazing to think that the solution to all our economic problems – unemployment, underemployment, housing prices, tax burden, ObamaCare, military spending, inflation, public sector union pensions, bloated government – may be as simple as digging a hole in the ground.

Over the past couple years it has become widely known in the conservative community that the United States has vastly more energy resources than previously thought. We lead the world in recoverable fossil fuel supplies and given the right political environment, we wouldn’t have to import another drop of foreign oil for the next hundred years or so, if ever.

And yet with all this wealth at hand, President Obama refuses to open up public land to energy development. From the moratorium in the Gulf to the pulling of drilling permits in western states, he has done all he can to prevent the nation from benefiting from our natural resources.

Not only do his policies hurt America, I can’t help but wonder at Obama’s shortsighted refusal to use the situation to his own political advantage. Everything he needs to pay for the socialist transformation of America is staring him in the face, and yet he is too steeped in liberal ideology to see it.

If he were to finance ObamaCare and the rest of his expansionist agenda with tax revenue from pro energy policies, it would be a lot harder for Republicans to dismantle his legacy once they retake power. Obama would also reap the political rewards of American prosperity for himself, rather than leaving the glory to others who follow.

A few tree huggers on the left might get upset, but with all the vast riches buried beneath the ground, the outcome is inevitable. So why fight it?

The benefits of vastly increased domestic energy production for the federal government would be massive. Tax revenue from the energy sector and royalties from drilling on public land would “necessarily skyrocket”. Combined with millions of new jobs and plummeting energy costs, the stage would be set for a new golden era of American economic expansion.

No matter what rules, regulations and outright lies Democrats put in place to stop us from using our natural resources, what they can’t do is make the fossil fuel deposits disappear. They will remain in the ground patiently waiting for someone with the political will to dig them up.

The next President will be given the historic opportunity to establish the United States as an energy independent nation. And if they can’t get the job done, someone else down the line will take advantage of the simplest solution to our economic problems. It is only a matter of time.
