The Sentinels of Liberty

A simple muse regarding letters written to loved ones by soldiers long departed...

These long held words... these letters, from the silent sentinels of liberty, do reveal the courage of a few good men... Whose, lives poured out, do bare record of their sacrifice for liberties dream. Where then comes the call for blood that these few should be brought low for our posterity... too, bleed fields red... too speak of the forlorn and long dead?

Let it be known that there can be no memorial so great as to immortalize these men... no treasure sufficient to repay their deeds... for with their sacrifice I live free and with their death I bathe in liberties reward. Can we then so easily forget... so often to neglect their cause. Let us not, with feigned desire, nor torrid hope reply... but with great generosity and moral courage support these who would die that we live free.

May God open the gates wide for those who no more cry... whose, bodies now broken lie in deaths way... that they may be immortalized in Christ... as the guarantors of liberty, to many who now live. For out of the cauldron of tempest many is forged our freedom... out of the valley we now rise too heavenly hights... that we may live where freedom resides.
