The internet provides the winds of change.

It wasn't long ago the internet served only scientists exchanging data sets.

Today it is the tool even a president of the United States of America uses to inform the citizens of impending disasters or to warn of the enemy within.

It has also become the main artery of communication between citizens and individuals.

Every week millions of people turn to Change.org to speak out. This week was no different as headline making stories turned into calls for action. From the fall of Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein to a nurse who got justice, here are two stories that show how we can all make a difference.

Harvey Weinstein's $5 million dollar gift returned

`Harvey Weinstein has long been considered one of the most powerful people in Hollywood. Now, more than 30 women have come forward to say he sexually assaulted them. Despite his denials, leaders and celebrities have been quick to condemn Weinstein.

Tiana Lowe, a University of Southern California student and journalist, started a petition calling on her university to reject Weinstein’s $5 million dollar endowment for women filmmakers. The petition took off on social media, made headlines, and within hours her petition was a victory.

Tiana said: "I can't even recall the last time USC rejected money, but with the power of the people, we reminded USC to do the right thing [and] stand up to sexual assault"

Tiana is not alone in successfully holding institutions accountable for their relationships with Weinstein. Just hours ago, a petition to remove Harvey Weinstein from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences — the organizations that awards the Oscars — won!

When Alex Wubbel’s arrest was captured on video, it shocked the country. Alex, a nurse in Pennsylvania, was just doing her job when a police officer violently arrested her for following hospital protocol. The video went viral and sparked outrage.

Shawn League saw the video viewed by millions. A nurse himself, Shawn started a petition calling on the officer to be disciplined. More than half a million people signed his petition, and it won! This week the Salt Lake City Police Department announced the officer has been fired.

Shawn proved how people across the country can channel their outrage into justice.
