Senator John Cornyn Texas, checks in RE: State of the Union

In last night's State of the Union address, President Obama attempted to convince the American people that he has run a fiscally responsible administration focused on jobs and the economy.

You and I both know better.

First there was the $787 billion stimulus package that the Obama Administration said would create millions of new jobs and save our economy. A year later, even many Democrats acknowledge the stimulus was a mistake, failing to create anything except a legacy of debt that will take generations to pay off.

Then there was the Democrats' attempt to ram through health care reform at any cost. A proposal to hand the government one-sixth of the American economy, in a deal worked out behind closed doors, was only derailed when one of the bluest states in the nation elected a Republican to the Senate who took a stand against the Democrats' plan.

After a year of exploding deficits, proposals to raise taxes, and more than 10% unemployment, 70 minutes of false promises can't fix our economy.

Senate Republicans want to restore a sense of fiscal discipline to Washington. We can have health care reform that lowers costs for Americans while increasing access and quality of care. We can reduce the deficit by stopping the rampant expansion of the federal government. And we can grow our economy by allowing Americans to keep more of their hard-earned dollars as a result of keeping taxes low.

Mrs. Hutchinson decided to run against a good Republican Governor right when we need all the Republican votes in the senate. How does she serve the conservative philosophy by doing that? I have some problems with her voting record also.
