Thomas Jefferson quotes, likely ruined here by my own amateur observations. But you get the drift, and you can see just how astute Jefferson was in his thinking.
Quote:
All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.
Observation:
Apathy will ruin us.
Quote:
We have the greatest opportunity the world has ever seen, as long as we remain honest -- which will be as long as we can keep the attention of our people alive. If they once become inattentive to public affairs, you and I, and Congress and Assemblies, judges and governors would all become wolves.
Observation:
We will only have ourselves to blame due to our apathy.
Quote:
The price of freedom is eternal vigilance.
Observation:
Stay informed and do not become complacent.
Quote:
If a nation expects to be ignorant and free, in a state of civilization, it expects what never was and never will be.
Observation:
Many refuse to understand what is at stake for the American people when they do not care to be informed or involved.
Quote:
Single acts of tyranny may be ascribed to the accidental opinion of the day; but a series of oppressions, begun at a distinguished period, and pursued unalterably through every change of ministers (administrators) too plainly proves a deliberate, systematic plan of reducing us to slavery.
Observation:
Our series of oppressions began the day President Obama was inaugurated. He has systematically put his hands in every pot imaginable and is making a mess!
Quote:
We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...[we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers... And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for[ another]... till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery... And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression.
Observation:
This will be Obama’s legacy - TARP, Stimulus Bills, Cap & Tax, Obamacare, probable reparations, and all pork added to bills being shoved down our throats, ALL WITHIN THE FIRST 6 MONTHS OF TAKING OFFICE. What do the next 3 years hold for us?
Quote:
No man will ever bring out of the Presidency the reputation which carries him into it.
Observation:
Let’s hope so! The media’s “slobbering love affair” with Obama is OVER!
Quote:
It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.
Observation:
The government is trying to give us their salesman pitch. Are you sold?
Quote:
What a stupendous, what an incomprehensible machine is man! Who can endure toil, famine, stripes, imprisonment & death itself in vindication of his own liberty, and the next moment ... inflict on his fellow men a bondage, one hour of which is fraught with more misery than ages of that which he rose in rebellion to oppose.
Observation:
Maybe those who were blind followers should have asked what the platform of “Hope and Change” really entailed?
Quote:
Every government degenerates when trusted to the rulers of the people alone. The people themselves, therefore, are its only safe depositories.
Observation:
Polls are slipping for this administration and congress. Yes, the Sleeping Giant is now awake.
Quote:
Were parties here divided merely by a greediness for office,...to take a part with either would be unworthy of a reasonable or moral man.
Observation:
The Democrats and the Republicans are ALL corrupt! It’s time to quit lowering our standards and find people who represent US!
Quote:
The two enemies of the people are criminals and government, so let us tie the second down with the chains of the Constitution so the second will not become the legalized version of the first.
Observation:
Let’s hope that new Supreme Court Justice, with the richness of her Latina experiences, does what she’s nominated to do and nothing more.
Quote:
The issue today is the same as it has been throughout all history, whether man shall be allowed to govern himself or be ruled by a small elite.
Observation:
Elite = Obama administration + Senate + House of Reps
Quote:
It is unfortunate, that the efforts of mankind to recover the freedom of which they have been so long deprived, will be accompanied with violence, with errors, & even with crimes. But while we weep over the means, we must pray for the end.
Observation:
So far just townhallers trying to get their voices heard, yet being labeled as nutcase, right-wing Nazis.
Quote:
When a man assumes a public trust, he should consider himself as public property.
Observation:
Phone-in townhalls, cancelling townhalls, calling Americans “Un-American” for protesting, and ignoring your constituents to take a cell phone call are NOT examples of a public servant doing the work of the constituents!
Quote:
What country can preserve its liberties, if its rulers are not warned from time to time that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? Let them take arms.
Observation:
Yet the media label us and our leaders call us “Un-American!” If it’s a liberal protesting, it’s okay. But if it’s protesting liberal agendas, it’s an outrage!
Quote:
Whenever the people are well informed, they can be trusted with their own government; that whenever things get so far wrong as to attract their notice, they may be relied on to set them to rights.
Observation:
At no time in history have the American people been as well-informed as they are now, as things HAVE gotten so far wrong to attract our attention!
Quote:
It is a great importance to set a resolution, not to be shaken, never to tell an untruth. There is no vice so mean, so pitiful, so contemptible as he who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do it a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual, he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all it's good dispositions.
Observation:
Who can believe this administration, which speaks half-truths, withholds information, and outright lies to us?
Quote:
I think we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious.
Observation:
Deals made with special interest groups, unions, ACORN, etc!
Quote:
I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.
Observation:
This administration is ALL ABOUT the pretense of taking care of us, and too many are so weak to think they should!
Quote:
If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their money, first by inflation and then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them (around the banks), will deprive the people of their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.
Observation:
The controversial Federal Reserve … yet it’s still around.
Quote:
When the government fears the people there is liberty; when the people fear the government there is tyranny
Observation:
Have you “flagged” yourself yet to flag@whitehouse.gov for your fishy thoughts about Obamacare? It is backfiring on them!
Quote:
My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government. That government is best which governs least.
To compel a man to furnish funds for the propagation of ideas he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical.
Observation:
Jefferson must be rolling over in his grave right about now.
Quote:
An honest man can feel no pleasure in the exercise of power over his fellow citizens.
Observation:
But dishonest ones have no problem with it!
Quote:
The man who never looks into a newspaper is better informed than he who reads them; inasmuch as he who knows nothing is nearer to the truth than he whose mind is filled with falsehoods and errors.
Observation:
Mainstream newspaper subscriptions are low and falling even further, which is a testament to how much the public does not trust their lies! Be vigilant to oppose any Fairness Doctrine or legislation that will attempt to disconnect its listeners from hearing opposing viewpoints!
Quote:
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
Observation:
The path to redistribution is here and we’re being forced to take it.
Quote:
No free man shall ever be de-barred the use of arms. The strongest reason for the people to retain their right to keep and bear arms is as a last resort to protect themselves against tyranny in government.
Observation:
Are we not on the path to being less free with big, intrusive government nipping at our heels? We are being primed for more infringement on our rights, including the 2nd Amendment constantly being challenged.
