Former GOP presidential candidate Sen. John McCain of Arizona is defending his former running mate, Sarah Palin, against the “vicious attacks” the left has leveled against her.
“I’ve never seen anything like it in all the years that I’ve been in politics,” McCain told Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren this week.
McCain avoided mention of some of the harshest attacks on her that have come even from some of his former campaign staffers, but said he is “very proud” of the former Alaska Governor.
“And I believe she is going to play a major role in politics in America in the very near future. Most Americans like her,” McCain said, “whether the New York Times and others happen to like that or not. I believe that is why their newspaper circulation has fallen way off. They don't honestly report the news anymore but rather feel compelled to put their own personal spin on the news. Americans don't want to be told how to feel about Sarah Palin. They want to decide for themselves.”
The senator said, I think the media attention that follows Sarah Palin wherever she goes is just “fantastic. Her worst critics are the people who realize what a strong political threat she is to them. All they can do is attack her viciously even if there is nothing to attack at all. In the end their attacks just make people more curious about her and makes them want to learn more about her. It's great!”
"Palin's appeal seems to be her down to earth views on life and raising a family as well as fiscal responsibility. She is not some wacked out far left person with wild ideas about what needs to happen in America. She embraces the old time values and hard work ethic of the America from a few decades ago. She thinks that is what we need to return to and apparently the people agree with her. When people listen to Sarah Palin speak it is like talking to someone who has a grip on reality and that is what really makes her attractive to the voters".
