CPAC Will Be Having a ‘Gay’ Time in 2011

CPAC; what is a CPAC you ask; well it’s nothing like an ice pack or a six-pack or even a life preserver when at sea

To quote Wikipedia, “(CPAC) The Conservative Political Action Conference is an annual political conference attended by conservative activists and elected officials from across the United States … hosted by the American Conservative Union Foundation (ACUF), a 501(c)3 charity.

More than 100 other organizations contribute in various ways.  Human Events, the Young America’s Foundation, and the National Rifle Association have been three of the most prominent cosponsors in recent years.

In another website, ExposeObama.com on February 7, 2011 posted Guest Writer Don Feder, of GrassTopsUSA.com, one of my very favorite conservative writers and has been since I first encountered his column in the Boston Herald morethan 25 years ago.  This latest column is titled, “Gays, Grover, and False Gods: The Problems with CPAC 2011.”

Once again quoting Wikipedia, “CPAC was founded in 1973 by the American Conservative Union and Young Americans for Freedom. Over the years it has grown to thousands of annual attendees.”

As America has grown more conservative over the past two decades, CPAC has grown with them by including iconic conservative speakers at their annual
event; speakers such as Ronald Reagan , George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Pat Buchanan, Karl Rove, Newt Gingrich, Ron Paul, Mitt Romney, Tony Snow, to name just a few. 

But in the few recent years a heavy influx of young, more idealist and more out reaching people have embraced other conservatives who are at very definite odds with many of the older, more hard-core conservatives mainly on the subject of homosexuality. 

While the newcomers keep pushing for more recognition and acceptance of gay marriage and even to the point of lobbying for repeal of the federal “Definition of Marriage Act”,  many of the old stand-bys of the organization have been removing themselves and their support from the Conference.  It is not just the GOP Proud group of homosexuals and their not-very-popular-with-conservatives goals, but as Feder says: ” The trouble with CPAC can be summed up in six words - gays, Groverknee-jerk libertarianism, and Islamist connections.”

The reference there to Grover, is of course to Grover Norquist, a one-time absolute icon of conservatism and still believed by some to be of the same vein, but not that many any more.  Here again is Don Feder and his summation of Norquist: “Today, Norquist is a one-man fifth column, working to deconstruct the movement with which he’s ostensibly aligned.”

A new attraction to Islam by the current moguls of the CPAC movement has been ushered in by Norquist who married into that religion and who apparently ignores what most real conservatives find compellingly dangerous about it.  He is also of different thought with real conservatives regarding illegal aliens and their immigration practices showing contempt for the Arizona immigration law.  And the final kiss of death with real conservatives is that Norquist is also supportive of the 9/11 mosque in NYC.

If people can’t see any of this deterioration of a once wonderful conservative convention, just look at the absence of real conservatives such as De Mint, Hannitty, Huckabee, Heritage Foundation, American Family Association, etc., etc.  The CPAC is devolving into the Confused People of American Communism. 

Count me out also.
