My E-Blast Report From...
'The Million Vet March on the Memorials',
which started at The WWII Memorial...

After a couple of hours, when all of the speakers
were done, most everyone walked from there to
breach the BarryCades at the Lincoln Memorial.
Prior to walking to the Lincoln Memorial, I had the
opportunity to meet, and shake the hand of, Sarah
Palin. Todd got jealous...

Just kidding, of course, about Todd getting jealous :-)

the "Million Veteran March" on Sunday? http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/3078319/posts?page=441
CNN Mocks Million Vet
March as "Tea Party Crazies"
CNN.com covered Sunday’s “Million Vet March”
in Washington D.C. against the Obama
administration’s closure of military memorials by
Obama told to ‘put the Quran down,’”
the headline read.
Well, I must admit, The Tea Party was well
represented in their support of the veterans, many
of whom, of course, ARE Tea Party members
themselves.
The Bikers and The Truckers were also there, along
with many Vet supporters of all political persuasions,
except for radical Leftists who despise their own
country and it's military.
And...Obama SHOULD put his quaran down :-)

The walk over to the Lincoln Memorial...

The crowd did not stay together, they fanned out to
all sections of the Mall, some going to the Iwo Jima
Mem, others to the Viet Nam Mem, and so on.
The bottom line is the ENTIRE Mall was opened
and being used whether the govt liked it or not.
I'm not good at estimating crowd size, and it was
smaller than I had hoped, but I'm guessing there were
a minimum of 5,000 spread across the entire Mall.
This is what was going on as I arrived at the
Lincoln Memorial...

Where CNN sees "fringe crazies", I see
upstanding, decent, Americans...

Of course, it depends on which picture one
chooses to highlight... :-)

As one approached the Lincoln Mem, the police
presence was to the left. They simply watched
for the most part, and seemed to go out of their
way to be non-threatening, just there in the event of
trouble.
They were obviously ordered to allow the civil
disobedience. I imagine that the powers that be
weighed the political optics of attacking veterans,
against their natural Leftist desire to stomp on any
dissent, and the PR blowback from any potentially
damaging optics won out.
After all, they already have a black eye from
closing the WWII memorial, which was the genesis
for this rally in the first place.
I think they just decided to cut their losses.
Not to mention, easily half of the rally participants
were combat veterans from every war since
WWII to the present. A bit different than evicting
80 yr olds from their house, or bullying busloads of
senior citizen tourists. These guys could give as
good as they got, if push came to shove, and were
prepared to do just that if they were blocked
from the memorials.
Those are the real optics the Left couldn't have
the country see...that their power could be
stood up to.
So I give this round to the veterans based on the
fact that the Statist's backed down from any
real confrontation.

So the rally continued on, unimpeded, at the
Lincoln Memorial...

Then the fellow in the Revolutionary War garb, who
is an iconic figure at every rally that I've ever been to
in D.C., called for everyone to take the protest to the
White House.
A cheer rose up and off they went...

Veterans Descend on Washington –
Carry BARRY-cades from Memorials
to White House
Veterans descended upon Washington DC Sunday
morning to visit the open air WWII memorial and the
Iwo Jima memorial. Thousands of individuals were
on hand to support these veterans to visit the
memorial in spite of Park Rangers attempting to
thwart visitors the day prior. Ordinary citizens picked
up barricades around the WWII memorial and piled
them in stacks on the grassy areas of the park.
