First, it’s most tempting to equate extreme Islam, for all practical purposes, with Islam as a whole. Also, I don’t use the term “moderate Muslim” in my writing, because I really don’t know what that would be. Nevertheless, I had a young Muslim acquaintance a few years back who was the very salt of the earth- and I wouldn’t want to insult her or anyone like her. For one thing, she was pretty much a Muslim in name only- like many Mormons or Catholics. I once told her, “I have one word of advice for you- America.” Having come from somewhere in the former Soviet Union, she was working on the Ocean City boardwalk in an Italian pizzeria. A fashion model and a skilled baker, she took my advice and attended a local community college, graduated at the top of her class- and even gave the commencement address. She then went to Drexel, where she also excelled. No, not a Christian yet, but more Christ-like than many Christians I know- including myself. I’d give you her name- but fear for her safety. Perhaps it can be misleading to label a person with a religion.
The news today is absolutely horrid: a third Florida police officer killed in recent weeks- four well-meaning Christian Americans murdered by Somali pirates- labor unions still spreading their politics of greed across the nation- Iran sending warships through the Suez- murder and chaos in Libya- a terrible earthquake hits Christchurch, New Zealand. And these are just the headlines…
It may be unfair to lay all this on Barry Obama, but it seems all Hell has broken loose since he took office. The drug lords of Mexico terrorize that nation and disseminate anarchy at will. Somalia’s pirates gleefully terrorize shipping in the Gulf of Aden with similar impunity. We’re still losing life and limb in Afghanistan- a tragic war so unwinnable that an eventual Pyrrhic victory would be catastrophic. Our porous borders cordially invite illegal aliens and international terrorists- as the military sworn to protect us is thinly dispersed around the globe in what appears to be a remake of “The Fall of the Roman Empire.” Though Americans see no cost of living increases in their pensions, prices are going through the roof. Greedy labor unions in concert with their lapdogs in Washington are tearing apart the fabric of our civility, if not our civilization itself. Our federal deficit has become an international scandal- our Red Chinese line of credit making us the laughing stock of nations. Even now, despite the noble campaign promises of 2010, the hemorrhaging of our wealth is being met with a Band-Aid instead of a tourniquet. Enough already…
We cannot successfully combat massive globalist tyranny and ruthless international chaos as individuals, but there is great strength in great numbers- and our conservative army is growing daily. The tide of public opinion has now turned in our favor. Nevertheless, we should not confuse the anticipated favorable outcomes of future elections with bold action presently needed on today’s critical battlefronts. “States’ rights!” must become our battle cry.
I am now convinced that the answer to our national dilemma lies in the hands of our several governors and their respective state legislatures. From the National Governors Association: “Nearly 50 governors… will gather in Washington, DC, Feb. 26-28, for the 2011 National Governors Association (NGA) Winter Meeting, which will include sessions with the President, members of his Cabinet, Congressional leaders, academic leaders, business executives and other experts for discussions about a variety of issues and challenges facing states… Throughout the meeting, there also will be several ‘Governors-Only’ sessions to provide governors the opportunity for dialogue on a variety of issues facing states.”
While I do not expect much good to come from those governors going toe to toe with an adversarial federal government, I do anticipate a show of states’ rights that will help solidify the collective mission of our individual states. Chris Christie of New Jersey? Mitch Daniels of Indiana? Jan Brewer of Arizona? Scott Walker of Wisconsin? Rick Scott of Florida? John Kasich of Ohio? Should be some glorious fireworks, folks! Any one of these governors would overwhelm the two-dimensional bean-counter currently in the White House.
In conclusion today, a few words about foreign policy- or perhaps the lack thereof. Teddy Roosevelt wrote to Henry L. Sprague on 26 January 1900, “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” It seems the present administration is all loud talk and a toothpick. The only relevant circumstance more frightening than Hillary as Secretary of State would be promoting her to President. In fairness to HRC, however, I do sense that Barry undercuts her on a regular basis to protect his faltering political career.
When foreign tyrants don’t fear American reprisal, whether those tyrants be Mexican drug lords, Somali pirates or Muslim mullahs- anything goes. When an American President is perceived as weak and vacillating, there is neither a dissuading defense for the weak and helpless abroad- nor for our vulnerable communities at home. When the wolves feel it’s safe to plunder, murder and rape, more attacks are made- and a greater military and police presence is needed to stave them off. Obama practices national defense through nauseating appeasement and through his perceived infallible affability- neither of which work in the savage jungle. Barry’s from Kenya and should know better…
