MAIG & Obama radicals pressuring Senators   As Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid vows to bring S. 649, the latest "universal background check" (read that "registration") bill to a vote as early as this week, Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Illegal Guns," Obama's "Organizing for Action, and the media have begun a full court press to pass whatever gun control they can foist on the American public. In fact, North Carolinians "Against Gun Control" just dropped 39,000 petitions, presumably gathered by Obama's radicals at "Organizing for Action," on Hagan. In response, the National Coalition to Stop the Gun Ban forged by GRNC and others is running a campaign against Hagan and 5 other senators. S. 374 & S. 649 would make you a criminal There is nothing benign about "universal background checks," which are gun control code words for "universal gun registration." Not only would S. 649 open the door for registration, it and similar bills under consideration would make it a 5-year federal felony to: Leave town for more than 7 days, and leave your wife, partner, or roommate at home with your guns; Lend a gun to a friend to take shooting or to go hunting; Loan a gun to your mother if she lives at a different residence; Hand a gun to someone at a gun club which is not a shooting range; Teach someone to shoot on your own land, if you hand them the gun; or Fail to report a gun as lost or stolen within 24 hours, even if you are on a hunting trip deep in the woods and are unable to do so. Republican Senators Support Filibuster on Gun Control

Twelve Republican senators have joined Sen. Rand Paul in threatening to filibuster a vote on any new gun restrictions, Politico reports.

In March, Sens. Paul of Kentucky, Ted Cruz of Texas, and Mike Lee of Utah sent a nearly identical letter to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid warning him that they planned to filibuster if Reid attempts to push through proposed gun control legislation, including expanded background checks.

Reid is expected to bring the legislation to the Senate floor in the next two weeks.

Politico obtained a copy of a letter that Paul intends to send on Monday to Reid. That letter is signed by 13 Republican senators, including Sens. Marco Rubio of Florida and Jerry Moran of Kansas, the publication reports.

The letter, according to Politico, repeats Paul’s original promise “to oppose any legislation that would infringe on the American people’s constitutional right to bear arms, or their ability to exercise this right without being subjected to government surveillance.”

While the Republican senators may try to filibuster the Senate as Paul did in March, Reid has a new Senate rule that he may invoke, which would limit such a move.

Reid can limit the filibuster by promising each party to two amendments to the bill. The Republican senators would still be allowed to voice their opinions, but they would not be able to prevent debate.

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina is the only Republican senator that has come out so far saying that he would not support a filibuster if the floor amendments are allowed.

White House: Colorado & Connecticut Set Precedent For Federal Gun Control

Colorado’s new gun bill that was signed into law last month puts into place stricter background checks for private and online gun sales and a ban on magazines that hold more than 15 rounds.

In Connecticut, the state is set to pass its own gun control law:

 “[S]tate legislators announced an agreement on measures to ban new high-capacity ammunition magazines, increased background checks, a new registry for existing magazines that carry 10 or more bullets, creation of what lawmakers called the nation’s first statewide dangerous weapon offender registry and an expansion of the state’s ban on automatic weapons.”

 Jay Carney said that these recent, strict gun control efforts in Connecticut and Colorado (where the President will be visiting this week to campaign for more gun control laws) show that the country is ready for stricter federal gun control measures. He stated that they “reflect the capacity around the country for bipartisan action including here in Washington.”

So, 2 states enact or are about to sign into law strict gun control measures that infringe on people’s 2^nd Amendment liberties, and that means it’s some kind of precedent that needs to continue across the country?

Colorado and Connecticut are the 2 states where the most recent massacres occurred, so it’s not surprising that those states have taken political advantage of those crises. Just because they responded by infringing on the 2^nd Amendment doesn’t mean that everyone else in the country wants the same thing.

Of course, they claim that they’re only responding to people’s outcries for their governments to find a “solution” to gun violence.

But not even the polls are on the White House’s side. CBS took a poll right after the Newtown murders, and support for stricter gun control laws was at 57%. Now, less than 4 months later, support has waned to 47% in favor of stricter gun laws.

This is like saying that everybody should be in favor of Obamacare, because healthcare costs are going to come down. Yeah, maybe in 4 states. What about the rest of the country? Well, costs are going to go up for the vast majority of the country under Obamacare, but that’s irrelevant. At least Obamacare is “working” for a few states. So, therefore, it must be a good idea for everyone. And I’m sure that, when pressed about it, Carney would say that those 4 states “reflect the capacity around the country” for bipartisan support for Obamacare.

The gun-grabbers say they are supported by popular opinion, and that nothing they’re proposing is unconstitutional. But they’re wrong on both counts. They start with their agenda, which they try to force fit into opinion polls and the Constitution
