Former Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan accused of exchanging meth for sex

ARAPAHOE COUNTY - Former Arapahoe County Sheriff Pat Sullivan was taken into custody on Tuesday, accused of trying to exchange methamphetamine for a sexual encounter with an adult man.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office says the investigation into Sullivan, 68, began on Nov. 17 after deputies got tips that Sullivan was involved in distributing and using meth.

After the South Metro Drug Task Force and sheriff's investigators say they saw Sullivan give meth to the man around 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sullivan was taken into custody without incident.

He is being held on a $250,000 bond at the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office Detention Facility pending the filing of criminal charges. The Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Facility is named after Sullivan.

Sullivan is being held in isolation, according to Arapahoe County Sheriff Grayson Robinson.

"I think the clear message is first and foremost, this is sad. This is a sadness for this organization. This is a sadness for men and women that serve with pride and integrity every day at the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office. And it's a sadness for our community. But beyond, and well beyond the sadness, no one is above the law," Robinson said.

Authorities say Sullivan faces charges of selling a controlled substance, a class-five felony. If he is convicted, he faces one to six years in prison.

He will appear in court on Wednesday.

The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office says Sullivan may face more charges and other suspects may also be charged.

Investigators told 9Wants to Know the man that Sullivan wanted to have sex with was a long-time associate of the former sheriff.

One of the reasons I am so opposed to the government being involved in your Second Amendment rights is that it takes the power away from you and puts it in their hands.

In the hands of people like the former Republican Sheriff of Arapahoe County, Colorado, Patrick Sullivan.

Sullivan made a habit of helping out groups like the Brady Campaign when it came to preventing law-abiding citizens from exercising their Second Amendment rights.

He even testified before Congress for Handgun Control in favor of the Brady bill.

During his 18-year tenure as Arapahoe County Sheriff, Sullivan was a poster boy for big government and was bestowed the title of national “Sheriff of the Year” in 2001 for his efforts at infringing your rights -- even at a national level.

Whenever she needed him, Sarah Brady trotted out Sheriff Pat Sullivan as a token Republican who wanted to impose gun control on America -- and it worked.

Our nation still lives under the insidious scheme of the Brady Act (which, incidentally, violates the Constitutional prohibition of infringing on the right to keep and bear arms). It is the cornerstone of most gun controls.

Sheriff Sullivan was also famous for trying to buy off local Colorado gun rights activists with a “buddy” concealed carry permit (when permits were almost impossible to acquire).

In 1995 Sullivan offered me a permit, attempting to buy my inactivity in the battle for concealed carry in Colorado.

It didn’t work. I literally told Sheriff Sullivan where to stick his permit, and continued to force a change in Colorado’s law.

On Tuesday Sullivan was arrested for dealing meth to a man for… Well, let’s just say it was for things I would rather not repeat.

That’s right; a power-hungry sheriff intent on taking your freedoms turned out to be a drug-dealing, male prostitute-seeker.

Former Sheriff Sullivan is now sitting in the Patrick J. Sullivan Jr. Detention Facility. That’s right. He’s sitting in the jail named for his honor.

And this is the kind of person the Brady Campaign champions and uses to testify as an “expert”?

I would like to tell you that I’m shocked, but you’re smart enough to know better.

Lets get his name removed from the very jail he sits in.

The problem with stemming the flow of DRUGS into the hands of those who use them is it's the ONLY way we have, so far, of reducing the consumption. Obviously consumption continues as does the flow of drugs into our country.

Shall we STOP the war on drugs and save ourselves a lot of time, aggravation, and a trillion dollars? I think NOT.

Can you picture what our country would be like if we had NO drug controls? Can you imagine what the OWS crowd would look like all drugged up? Can you picture the 90,000 people at a football stadium all drugged up?

Can you picture your grandkids poping a dose of meth before school or mixing in some cocaine with their school lunch?

Or how bout our courts, how would a judge function while high on crack? Would his legal opinions be accurate, fair, and humane?

I dunno . . . . . it seems we have ourselves between a rock and a hard place.

Keeping drugs (illegal) at least gives us "good" people a target to aim at, a time when drug use enforcement is no longer needed because the users and abusers finally realize their lives are being ruined.

OR.

the people wanting drugs made legal can just continue their quest for drug induced nirvana and drag the rest of us down with them . . . . . IF we let them.

The direction of our country WITH legalized drug use would be DOWN not UP.

Now let's go on to the war on drugs that's been going on for 40 years ( actually almost 100 yrs).

Wow 1 trillion dollars spent on this thing over 40 yrs! Now that's about 3,333 dollars per american, now you multiply that by 2 cause roughly about only 1 half of americans pay taxes, so that's 6,666. Now my best guess is that you could pay for the education of most college students with that money or hey I have a better idea, hit those areas that have the most drug crime with a massive wave of education, bust up these inner city drug infested communities and spread them out, give them access to private schools and you would get a quadruple bang for your buck. A vastly more educated what use to be poor america, higher tax revenue cause with education comes a better and more employment with higher incomes = more tax revenue, less crime, families that are more likely to have two parents therefore stronger family values and much much more. I think I could find a lot better things to do with 1 trillion dollars.
